Which best for snow - Defender vs Discovery?

re the predicted snow in kent tomorrow.
I HAVE TO get to the Post Office tomorrow (20 odd numnah orders
to post, many of which will be christmas present orders) So need to go.

Bearing in mind I live up a farm track and then titchy lanes that
won't be cleared, I'm wondering which would be the best option to take,
Landrover defender with off road tyres or new style discovery with road tyres
but with all the mad snow settings etc (that I don't understand lol). Which
would be my best bet do you think?

I'm mid way between tunbridge wells and maidstone... Yeh I know what
you mean nothing yet. Wonder if it won't happen lol, probably
worrying unnecessarily! Just can't bear to let everyone down by
not getting their orders out!
 
Defender. Tyres are the most important. Have been to a muddy point to point and watched numerous "posh" 4X4s (audis/ BMWs) being towed out by the good old fashioned 4x4s with knobbly tyres!!

Defender defo, spent many years driving a defender through some of the worst terrain and snow it never let me down and always managed to get me out of bother! Much prefer them to my Grand Cherokee Jeep. Simple and to the point with no immobilisers etc to go wrong.
 
Defender. OH has also said that if you slide off the road in your new Disco and bend it, you'll cry, whereas Defenders somehow improve with dents!

Anyway, couldn't resist posting a couple of pics of last Feb, took us an hour and half to get to work, instead of ten minutes, remember to take the chainsaw tomorrow to cut down dodgy trees!

Definitely use your old defender, don't bend your new disco.

There is a sprinkling of snow here in Maidstone, but the wind is bitter.
 
this country is crap. a few inches of snow and the place grinds to a halt! most 4x4 will get through most things in this country if you go slow. either of your vehicles will do the job in 4 wheel drive and 5 mph!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right defender it is, thank you all. Heating is feeble, (lots of noise but not a lot
of output lol) but if it gets there that's all that matters. Think the photos decided it.
At least the (rather gay looking) snorkel means they will find me if I get stuck in a
snowdrift

Def. the Defender. The Disco will probably get you out of trouble but it's usually the other road users you need to look out for, they tend not to stop and just slide into you.

Can't wait to get out in Tiddles tomorrow - sorry TD5XS with all the toys!

Fairly soon after I got my Disco we had flooding and one 'feature' I did find useful was the one that raises the height...

There is a lane here, with deep ditches on each side. Oh and there is a bridge, but its submerged. I thought it was a little bit of water until I rounded the corner and suddenly realised the full horror of what I was driving through

Couldnt go back so had to keep going. Bless it my Disco made it. I thought I was going to throw up I was so scared

Used to have snow chains for my series 2 long wheel base arctic they were such a bar steward to put on I used to get in such a pickle but once they were on there was nowhere that rover wouldn't go. Admit lights, washers and petrol tank under the seat were crap but had an arctic heater in it! it was roasty toasty! Also if you got up a bit of speed it was like driving a huge bumper car lol very fond memories of my previous life!
 
I would of said Disco after mine tonight got me home up a steep black ice road. But then you said the Defende had the offroad tyres. That seals it!

Mine as OR tyres & just cruised up the hill weaving in & out of all the cars abanded all over!
 
Defender!!! I wouldn't touch a discovery with a barge pole.....NUP good old workmanlike defender for me, Mind you I have nearly a mile of ice to drive tomorrow with my trusty little daihatsu fourtrack - mud n snow tyres and I even have a set of chains if needed!!

totally agree! I remember when I went to a show in that really wet year, 2008?? i think...and the miserable cow next to me in her gleaming BMW school run mobile trying to pass it's self off as a 4x4 was looking down her snooty nose at my little fourtrack.......guess who got out of the swamp NO PROBS trailer and all??? The fourtrack!!! Her stupid road tyres on her shitmobile let her down big style!!!!! Yes she had all the electric gizmos - she was fond of mouthing loudly about it to all who would listen - but they got her nowhere - she had to wait for a tractor MWHAHAHA!!
