Hi guys, I had a horse given to me few months back prior to me having him he hadn't done nothing for atleast 1and a half years just been left, I've got him going pretty good but when I rode the weekend he started napping on a main road and spun around and I couldn't stop him, normally he's not strong at all but I realised if he wants to go his own way when he feels like it he will, he is in a snaffle now and considering a stronger bit but nothing to harsh as he's normally fab, any advice would be welcomed

Yes they have been done, he napped when he was at his old farm but I stopped him doing it when he came to mine but the weekend I just couldn't stop

If he's spinning round & napping I'm not sure a bit will make any difference tbh. Swopping to a full cheek snaffle might make the spinning less pleasant for him, but that's not really going to actually solve the napping. Hard to give specific advice to cure it without knowing exactly what happens.

Ok thanks, first of all he stopped in the middle of the road stuck his head right into his side so I couldn't turn and when I corrected this he started taking off down the road and I couldn't do anything I've been riding for years so not the case that I'm a novice he just wasn't stopping

Are you riding on your own? If his had a break from riding might be best to hack with someone for a bit until he settles down a bit, he might be feeling a bit insecure going on his own hence the napping.

Nope I ride him with another horse, he has been on his own but not far and only the places he's familiar with and goes fine...I don't know what to do next with him
