My big Clydesdale x is just in a happy mouth loose ring snaffle and my big heavy draft gelding is in a french link although he goes really well in a Dr. Cook's bitless bridle as well.
The two horses both have KY Rotary Snaffles (loose ring, double jointed) because they are lovely! They are very gentle with no pinching, they have independant side movement and every horse I have ridden in one has gone better!
The pony is in a bendy rubber straightbar as I am desperatly trying to remouth her and undo alot of damage! She has a very sensitive mouth but harsh riding and bits have made her very anxious and upset which makes her strong. She also throws her head up with a metal mouthpiece but not at all with the bendy rubber and gentle hands. We are slowly getting there and hopefully doing things this way will be better for her in the long run because she is the sweetest pony ever!
George is a shire x, I ride him in a dutch gag for hacking and jumping (he doesn't really need it, but it's my comfort blanket) and at last I've found a dressage legal bit we're happy with, a kk ultra loose ring snaffle (typical that he likes expensive bits!!)
My Tb has a loose ring french link as it's what he came with and he seems happy with it.
Welshie has a 'magic' bit - loose ring straight bar with small port - as she has a very sensitive mouth and this is the only bit she's happy with.
Toby has a straight bar pelham with port used with two reins. He seems comfortable in the straight bar (and I don't see the point of jointed pelhams!) and needs the curb rein on occasion as he can be quite excitable!
french link eggbutt snaffle, for everything, as he is very easy to control and isnt strong. however i am finding that he is getting stronger as he gets fitter - i may have to get a stronger bit for xc!
leah3 he came in a kimblewick from riding school only had him 2 months, i find him in a kimblewick not too strong, he pulls a lot and has his head down a lot especialy towards the end of a ride, havnt tried him in anything else as riding school said he worked better in school with kw, anyone recomend a bit or should i stick with a kw.
French link eggbutt snaffle. She's a bit daft but responds better to quiet riding than being pulled on, so anything stronger would probably send her loopy. Have actually been toying with the idea of going bitless for a while but need the courage. It will either go really, really well, or really, really, really badly.
snaffle, ex ex trainer had him in a running gag, ex trainer had him in a 3 ring gag, no idea why as they're quite opposite! I have him in a bog standard snaffle for everything and he's fine, sold the gags on ebay!
some myler bit for mollie dont know the name of it was running out of ideas when someone suggested it and she goes lovely in it
chester is in a happymouth mullen eggbutt snaffle at the moment cause that is what he come with and he sems to go nicely in it although i'll doubless go through a trial and error with him as his tranining comes on and he gets fitter and learns to jump
