4.5" snaffle bit

Looking at buying a full cheek french link bit this weekend, was going to get a 5" as the 4.5" is a snug fit. But old owner said she used to use 5.5" which looks a bit big?

Can't see really well but looks like the 5and 1/2 is too big and you are right 4and 1/2 looks a bit snug so I guess 5inch would be about right. Can't you buy one on the proviso that if it does not fit you can take it back? My local tack shop is happy for you to do that.

hope you find a well fitting bit.

Please adjust the grackle noseband. It should cross-over higher up the horse's nose. The sheepskin bit will slide down the straps, so you may just need to slide it back up again, but it might be worth srortening the headstrap part of the noseband too. Here's a good photo of a correctly adjusted one. :)

thanks for advice guys, top bridle was a friends borrowing while sizing up. Got a bargain Sabre bridle now for £30 :)

Ended up plumping for a 5", which seems to give clearance on both sides but not too tight.

Got a french link / with a single copper peanut roller in the middle and full cheek.

Looks like this one in below link. Couldn't find much info in how a copper peanut roller differs from french link?

got in touch with the previous owner who ridden him in a mouthing bit full cheek, so he seems to really like the copper roller as used to something to mouth.
