Which bit for a 4 year old?

To anybody who has a youngster or experience of riding them. Which bit do/did you use to start schooling your young horse in? Mine is in a full cheek jointed snaffle and im not sure if she's entirely happy?! Was thinking of something like a snaffle with a lozinge rather than a french link. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thankies

Tia was backed, broken and ridden away in a loose ring lozenge snaffle. She is still in it now, at 6 and so is her best friend who was also backed, broken etc in it.

Loose ring lozenge, seems to suit majority of horses

Bodey was backed and is still ridden (he is 4) in a plain eggbutt snaffle. Why get complicated?

I started my mare off in a eggbut french link. I had some success with her in a straight happy mouth as well. 12 years on she's now in a loose ring snaffle. I agree, the less complicated the better!

I started my 4 yo in a full cheek french link and he was very happy. The French link is so much milder that the single break snaffle. Start as mild and kind as you can. xx
