So I appreciate this has probably been done before but I'd really like some up to date advice.

So my Xmas present to myself arrives on Saturday woohoo :) he's a 5 year old ex flat racer. When I tried him he was in a fulmer jointed snaffle and I'm just curious as to what bit everyone rides there ex racers or tbs in?

My other retired ex racer is ridden in a French link jointed snaffle for schooling/hacking and a Dutch gag for when I need a bit more brakes eg hunting, xc.

What are your ones in?

Either straight bar/mullen and micklem bridle or bitless. Less is definitely more for him and any joints/lozenges etc are too complicated!

My boss - an ex jockey had brothers who were trainers so we'd get lots to bring on, I'd ride all of them in a Fulmer, it encourages them to work long and low and build up the right muscles.
