So my new horse is coming on sunday! ive got the majority of her tack but i need a bit. ill be doing a lot of schooling as she is still very green, and also has some bad habits! i need a really soft bit for her as she has an extremely soft mouth, she is 3,4 in april. Any ideas on which bit to buy

Difficult to say without knowing her mouth conformation but French or lozenge or happy mouth with cheeks or a D ring.

hmm, at the moment shes in a full cheek snaffle, but when you squeeze the reins to stop you have to release straight away otherwise its too strong for her. im wanting a really soft bit, a training bit

I've just changed mine to a sprenger aurigan loose ring mullen mouth.
He is an older horse, but has a lovely soft mouth and usually hates metal bits, but he loves this one!
Its very mild, though quite heavy, compared to his previous happy mouth.
Could you borrow some different types or hire them to see which he prefers?
A lot depends on mouth conformation, my boy has a large tongue and a low palette and just cannot tolerate jointed bits of any kind.

I started my youngster in a French Link full cheek. A nice gentle bit with the cheeks to aid turning. As her education continues I will change to a loose ring French link unless she shows she doesn't like it or goes poorly in it in which case it will be back to the drawing board :p
