My rising 5 yo is currently in a Full cheek french link snaffle. He does toss his head on occasions and after having his back, saddle and teeth checked am at a bit of a loss as to why. He generally does it whilst schooling and someone suggested it might be because he doesn't like this particular bit? I thought it was perhaps a rebellious issue but woud be interested in any suggestions.

He may be doing it as the muscles in his neck/back are tiring during schooling, when i first got my young mare she used to do it a fair amount when being schooled, particually towards the end of a session, but she does it much less now she is stronger. x

I agree with eventing diva. A full cheek french link is a lovely bit to start a young horse. A lot of young horses do this when they are building up their muscles.

If it was me I would get an experienced instructor to give me a few lessons and then get their opinion once they know me and my horse.

Thank you for your advice. I never thought of the muscle issue. I only get to school once a week in my lesson so I guess he doesn't use some muscles that much. Thanks again.
