Hello,
My 17.1hh gelding jumps fine at home, not overly excitable......jumps lovely. At a show...its a whole different story!! He charges into jumps, knocks poles, tries to drag me into corners. I have tried exercises with him by turning away from the jump, sometimes jumping, sometimes not, taking different routes and get him listening to me.....but at home he doesnt get excited anyway so its not the same!!
He was in a french link when i had him, then i put him in a plain waterford bit, then i charged him to a dutch gag happy mouth.
The waterford stopped him dragging into the jumps, dragging around corners etc. but would pinch the corners of his mouth and he didn't seem to turn with it. Took him team chasing and put him in the dutch gag which seemed to be better for corners and he seemed more accepting to it, but he drags into the corners and charges at showjumps
So whats next?
I dont want to keep changing his bit but i need to find one which i can hold him in, one that helps turning, one which he can't drag me into corners/jumps and one which is 'soft' on his mouth and he accepts.
I'm thinking about a waterford jumpers bit but
how expensive!!! x I am also thinking of this because i don't know of many other bits! Would this help?
Biscuits to all!! x
