Which bit?

Having tried a couple of bits it seems my little mare does not like a loose ring. Unfortunately I don’t have any dressage legal bits that aren’t loose ring in her size

As I’ll be buying new I just wondered what people would suggest as a starting point.

She’s currently ridden in a loose ring full cheek as that’s what I started her in. Logical choice would seem to be to try a fulmer but she doesn’t need the cheeks so not sure if I should look for something else

Can you get a bit specialist out? Would potentially save you a fair bit of trial and error.
You don't mention what type of mouth she has, nor what mouthpiece she is happy in.
I could suggest a good few types but you would definitely be better advised by a decent specialist.

One of mine doesn't like a loose ring he will happily go in a eggbutt French link with lozenge or a hanging cheek with lozenge that one is a sweet iron one, maybe try that some like the sweet iron over the other metals.

I would start with an eggbutt with the same mouthpiece as the loose ring maybe. Not sure what the mouthpiece is, but NS do a nice one with a lozenge, or there are many similar copies for less pennies.
If she’s sensitive and not too strong, then the Myler type eggbutt is quite nice. I have a sensitive mare who loves that one.

Eggbutt sounds like a good idea to me as well, with the same mouthpiece as the loose-ring you've been using, or a different mouthpiece if you're not certain your mare's problem is just with the rings. Does she like a French link?

Thank you all for your thoughts.

She’s currently just in a single joint, which I don’t think she minds, but she is a senstive type and does have quite a petite mouth so I am going to try a NS eggbutt with a lozenge and see how she goes.

Has anyone found a huge difference between the horses way of going in the tranz angled lozenge and the turtle top? Are both dressage legal?

I do also like the idea of the D ring snaffle so will get one of those to try too

I use the eggbutt turtletop NS on mine. I wanted the loose ring but it just wouldn’t sit properly in her mouth. She seems happy in it but the only other bit I’ve tried her in is a single jointed snaffle but she seemed to ‘play’ with it much more.

I’m sure it says on NS website that the turtletops are dressage legal but better check.
