I've been fancying doing some dressage with my big horse but she is ridden in a pelham, she loves this bit goes very nicely in it, its a rubber mouth.

Am I right thinking I cannot do dressage in it? I dotn really understand why.

And what bit can I use that is similar, she will ride ina snaffle but doesnt go well, doesnt like the mouthpiece (normal or with a lozenge) and doesnt turn in themat all, the hanging cheek/baugher dont help either.

Is there anything similar in action the pelham that I can use for dreassage? Thanks

I would definetely recommend a Myler, my pony goes so much better in his, as they are designed to fit the shape of the horses mouth. We were recommended our Myler by our EDT

If you do try one, make sure you get one that is dressage legal, as some of them aren't.
You could have a look at
this website as it's very useful

you can't use a pelham becuase of the poll pressure and the leverage you can use on the curb.

basically you can use it to pull the horse's head to the vertical without riding between leg and hand correctly.

If your horse likes the mullen mouthpiece of the pelham I would recommend a myler mullen mouth hanging cheek snaffle. That way you get a bit of the poll pressure that the pelham gives, and it's a mouthpiece she likes. You might be able to find a normal mullen mouth hanging cheek or a happy mouth (I have seen some, but when I bought mine I could only find an expensive myler one and the ones I've seen since have all had very thick mouthpieces that my horse wouldn't like). My horse, who also goes well in a pelham, loves his myler.

Thank you i'll look into some of these bits mentioned, i had thought about double bridle but was also told I couldnt use this unless i got to Elementary which is a long way off yet.

I've never tried a Myler so will have a look at them Thanks again.
