As we're now starting to jump more & do a bit of XC, I'm looking for some protection for my mare's legs :)

Which boots do you use? Do you boot front & back? Just for jumping, or for flatwork too?

On a budget so ideally would like to buy one set to use all-round - thinking maybe brushing boots, looking at the woof wear range. Are they any good?

Any recommendations /thoughts much appreciated :)

Prolite closed tendon for front and event boots for hinds. Not the cheapest but would offer far more protection for xc than a ordinary brushing boot, they last for year if looked after and no reason why they couldnt be used for flatwork.

Having had several occasions where various brushing boots have been ripped into just out hacking i personally wouldnt go xc without decent protection. A set of prolites is cheaper than a vets bill:)

OK here's the list...
Flatwork: Stretch and Flex Wrap and O/R boots
SJ: Woof wear pro open tendon for fronts and fetlock for hinds and O/R boots
XC: N.E.W airflow XC boots for fronts and Eskadron closed tendon for hinds and O/R boots
Hacking: Varies...

Though all of the above chop and change depending on weather i.e. if it's hot she won't wear boots or if we're doing easy stuff

ETA I am trying to change the Eskadron hinds for N.E.W airflow boots as they're cooler, but I have to wait for a pair to come up on ebay :( :P :D

To be honest it depends on your horse - for example my horse does not like boots on really at all and I am convinced his showjumoing got worse if i put tendon boots on him so, for SJing I just put on overreach boots to offer some protection for his heels and XC he has the overreach and eskadron open-fronted tendon boots as he seems ok xc with these on. I don't put hind boots on him but then i am only competing at a lowish level (3ft sort of max) and he is pretty careful so isn't likely to touch anything with his hinds.

If your horse maybe is less careful then I would go with eskadrons or prolites for fronts and hinds. They are not the cheapest but neither are they extortionate.
