which boots for yard, teaching & riding

I am looking for something all in one that I can wear all day around the yard, teach and ride in. I was thinking about the mountain horse sportive high riders, but have heard bad things about the stitching and zips going. I have had tred step short boots and gaiters for years and they are fab but i'd like a long boot. i've had ariat and they've always split. I have long skinny legs and don't want baggy boots. What do you recommend???
 
You'll hate me but stick with boots and gaiters (sorry)

I've had the same pair of sportive high riders for 3 (or is it 4?!) years now. They've been fabulous. Only caution is I think tramping up and down to the field through mud is the thing that kills them (my friend has been through 2 pairs in the same amount of time and the only difference is that she walks up and down the hill in all weathers in hers). Candle wax or WD40 on the zip stops it from jamming.
 
I had the mountain horse rimfrost and found the zips went, really want the hi riders but have heard the same. I got the Dublin river boots and found they are too baggy for my legs (same sort of legs as you i think). Saddlery owner said i needed to get fatter legs. I like my jod boots and half chaps too but not great in the mud. I am open to suggestion too.
 
I've just bought Ariat Grasmeres, after nearly a whole winter of searching for the 'right pair'! I've got long slim legs and they are adjustable up the side and they are comfortable for on the yard and riding in. I got them at £179 which is the cheapest I found and shoeandboot.co.uk and they do free delivery on orders over £50. I've also seen since I got mine that they're now offereing a free Ariat umbrella with them, I should have held out a bit longer!
 
The new Mountain Horse boots have new zips and dont have any of the probs of the old boots... I have had 4 pairs of MH boots, never had zips go yet and oldest boots are from when they were first released!!! I wore mine constantly when working on a yard, found they were great for everything, they are still the only long boots I will buy and have just got a pair of the High calibres for shows, they are excellent too....
 
I would never have a pair of mountain horse boots ever again as I have broken my foot twice whilst wearing them. Both times I literally dismounted from my horse and snapped two bones in my foot. When I appeared at the hospital for the second time they looked at my boots and said the metal shank in the boot was a likely culperit as I dismounted onto flat ground didn't lose my balance etc. Ariats all the way from now on the endurance boots are sooooo comfortable and scrub up really well also .
 
I do yard work, ride and teach in my Regent Pro-Rustlers - they are brilliant, very good fit, sturdy zip, good hard-wearing sole, but look very smart (I LOATHE Mountain Horse boots for lots of reasons). The Regents are not too expensive either. I have a brown pair for everyday, and a black pair for posh.

Owning a pair of long skinny legs, I found that Mountain Horse long boots of any variety were far too wide - the only ones that fitted width wise were the junior ones and they were about 6" too short. For yard stuff and dog walking (and riding if I feel scruffy) I wear Tuffa Suffolks and for general riding I wear ariat devon pro boots and close contact chaps which are a fab fit and very comfy - wouldn't hesitate to wear all day every ady.

Had mine 6 months now and if you took the layer of mud off them they would still look brand new.

They are waterproof and insulated fine to ride in, very very comfortable and totally adjustable.

Nearly everyone on the yard has a pair, including the assistant YM who does all the riding, teaching and yard work.
 
Thanks everyone i bought a pair of short boots and cavello gaiters in the end as they were half price at my local saddlery (gaiters down to £49.99 and boots down to £15) and this meant i could afford a pair of new hunter hamilton leather shooting boots from ebay too for £60 and a brand new tweed jacket for £35. I had a bit of a spree!!

, not bad though two pairs of boots, one pair of gaiters and a hacking jacket all for £159.99 (which is what i was going to pay for boots alone) i happy with that.
