Had a lesson today, half and half flatwork and jumping, when I got back to the Yard took boots off to find he had sweated A LOT so much there was foam under his boots. They are woof wear ultra boots, so quite thick. Just wondering what other people use? Would tendon/fetlock boots be cooler? I have read something somewhere at some point (!!!!!) that over heating the tendons actually weakens them. I did think about going bootless but if he injured himself and it could have been prevented by booting I would feel awful. I don't use them for hacking, only lessons, and always cold hose his legs afterwards if they have got sweaty.

I tend to bandage when it's very hot, though not sure whether they are much cooler than boots tbh. I have noticed my mare's legs are much less sweaty under bandages than boots though, and her boots are Woof Wear.

I have a gorgeous set of Felt brushing boots with leather strike guards. The are super tough but breath beautifully. They are my go to boot in the summers over here, when the temp doesn't get below 30 degrees C! The company that makes them are called '10 minute box boots' and are very accommodating :)

I use New Equine airflow boots in the summer or when working horse hard, they are expensive but have lasted very well x

I think I would worry about bandaging as I wouldn't want to do it wrong with uneven pressure etc as it's not something I've done very often. Will have a look at the airflow ones... Thank you :-)

My mum's horse has very hot legs and sweats even in winter. Unfortunately he's a clumsy old fool, too! He has Tri Zone all sports boots in front and just fetlock boots behind. She always has to wash his legs off afterwards, but these are the best we've tried for not making his legs foamy - just a smidge damp.

Trizone airlites are best for keeping legs cool. Very lightweight and the air goes straight through. Not the most robust boots as they are so light and flexible but I wouldn't use anything else on a very hot day !

When it's really hot I find my pony's legs get sweaty under neoprene- I use bandages mostly but try and use his shorter pairs so not too much excess material.

I bought the NEW airflow boots last summer and was really impressed with them, don't seem to heat the legs at all - pricey but think they're probably worth it as I haven't tried anything quite as good!

(ps - just noticed they are 20% off on their website at the moment, which helps!)

May just pluck up the courage and order some, will need fronts and hinds!! So open fronted tendon boots wouldn't be the answer?? I'm not overly worried by price, just want to keep S as comfortable as possible! Thanks all for the replies :-)

I use the trizone boots for every day and have a set of the PE light eventing boots as well for fast work etc. Legs stay nice and cool

Hi! I was in the same boat not too long ago - I realized that using woof wear boots in the summer work best. Just regular. I try not to use wool/fleece lined boots in the summer. I find that my horse sweats more and becomes harder to clean. If you do use fleece boots, use them in the winter, or if your horse sweats while wearing them, hose down their legs afterwards. I really like the Arma Air Motion Brushing Boots or the LeMieux Grafter Brushing Boot for the summer. The Dover Pro fleece boots are my go-to favorite in the winter
