I'm off to the Cheshire show tomorrow as acting groom for a friend that's entered and I'm hoping to get myself around some horsey stands that sell body protectors?

I'm about a size 16 up top so Im not very hopeful that Il find one that's a comfortable fit and doesn't restrict my movement. I'm an older rider that only hacks tbh, but I do hack fast and have a spooky mare who an put in a fine buck when the mood takes her. I've also got a disabled OH and so Ican't afford to become disabled myself, even for only a week.

It'll be my first BP so any pointers and advice anyone can give me will be gratefully received and Thankyou.

I love my Air O wear Outlyne - I hate BP's normally but this is really light, soft, moulds within about 2 mins and is designed for the female shape so allows for boobs :D

Ive got an Airowear Outlyne which is shaped to allow for your boobs. I don't find it restricting. It softens as it warms up so is quite comfy.

I shall be watching this thread closely. I am very short in the body, and not well, but reasonably endowed. I also think that sometime I may manage to pluck up the courage to do the odd cross pole/grid work, but have never really worm a BP before which puts me off as I don't want to do it without one, despite the fact that I happily jumped 3 ft plus without one on my old horse, but I was younger then with no responsibilities.

For the more generously endowed among us I find the Rodney Powell BP fab for those with boobs! Depends what size you are boob wise as some say they deal with curves but don't really.

Another vote for Airowear Outlyne - it's fab.

I too am rather ample up top, and am only 5'5, but this BP fits me well. I often find that anything that I can squeeze the boobs into is too big for the rest of me!

One thing I would say though - I made sure that I tried this BP on with my saddle. Got funny looks when I took it to the shop with me, but I rarely wore my old BP as it was uncomfortable and a bit long for my saddle. I ended up with one that was a little short for me going by measurements alone - but no point having it if I can't actually get it into my saddle!

Obs you can't do that at a show - but see if they have a saddle you can at least hover over to check :D

Edited to add: It is so comfy when on that I always wonder why I don't wear it more often!

I want to ask though - do they feel like straightjackets? I tried my son's Rodney Powell one on and it fitted, but I couldn't move my limbs, or much else really, very comfortably. I've never really ridden with one and tbh I'd rather not jump than feel constrained.

It feels like that at first I likened it to wearing armour! However it moulds to you as it warms up and TBH I never even notice I'm wearing it. You can get them custom made to your measurements and they adjust very well.

Thanks! Might give it a go. I'm really in two minds about it. I just worry that wearing one will make me feel more wobbly than not wearing one. Mind over matter and all that. :)

Naw you'll be grand, get measured and get it fitted and trust me once it moulds to you you won't notice its on.

Outlyne vote here too - comfy, supportive, good for boobs, and short people ( I am 5'2" and not small "up top" and it is great )

I thing I would add - make sure your bra doesn't have the metal strap adjusters sitting on the top/point of your shoulder - they will rub with a BP on.

Another vote for the Racesafe 2000 but get it made to measure. I have mine complete with shoulder protectors & it's very comfy to wear and very adjustable.

Another vote here for Racesafe. I am, as you say um ... well endowed (and short in the body) and I find the strings give you plenty of leeway to adjust to fit. Also, there is some play if your weight goes up and down a bit, like mine! After a very short while you forget it's there!

(Although I must admit, I don't tend to wear it these days  )

I was wondering if they are adjustable as my weight goes up and down too, so thanks
