Sorry, but I thought a poll was called for, just out of interest, to see which breed/type was most unpopular, I have my suspicions
smile.gif
.......following on from MMs' post earlier.
This is only a short list going from breeds/types mentioned most frequently there.

I put shetlands, for a kid I would rather have an ancient, about to die welshie than a little overactive, too smart for its own good monster

One of the best horses I owned was ex a Arab/Welsh by an Anglo Arab. She was the most honest, sane horse of the lot. Maybe people can't cope having a horse with more intelligence then them! Anyway I dont think there are any particularly bad breeds depends on what you want them for. You would not want a breed with a thick set kneck for dressage as they find it harder to flex. There are people that dont suit sensitive breeds.

I don't mean to be controversial but aren't we all on here because we love horses? We have many different breeds/types/colours etc amongst us but we all love our horses so it seems a bit negative for us all to start criticising other breeds which other posters own and care deeply about. Sorry, just my opinion

As before..I don't dislike any breed..just have no use for the real little ones (but still think they are cute)

For the record..I LOVE Arabs, did a lot of riding on them in my teens and would have another..

I second that - and i'm sorry but I can't help getting upset over all the arab haters out there - would be nice to know how many of them actually handled/rode any - in my experience those that have ridden any of my Arabs (past and present) have been very very surprised

I agree too - I had an Anglo Arab as my first horse and he taught me so much - then had a nutty little arab mare. They are hot blooded but such amazing horses.

It's like everything, I'm not a warmblood lover but will freely admit that I've never owned one so ignorance is bliss!

I am not keen on arabs, my friend has an Egyptian one. He has always had problems with his back, neck and all sorts. I am also under the impression they can be hard to fit saddles for. I have not ridden one they always look a bit too flighty and delicate for me.

Ive rode full arabs, i meant to say i dont like full arabs, part breds are different, my friend has a few and i do like them but im not a full arab person. I used to ride and handle them and everyone i know has had problems with them, I will ride them but i wouldnt buy one.

I love arabs, I've had 3 part breds!!! My current chap is a part bred arab.

Yes, they are tricky to fit saddles for.

If you get a good arab they are amazing! If you get a not so good arab, they can be nutty freaks!

Just love their intelligent minds, floaty paces and look at me I'm gorgeous attitude.

However I do like all horses, whatever the breed.

Not keen on shetlands at all.......due to bites from one at my yard.....and to be honest very few could be suitable for a child, guess there is good and bad in all breeds!!!! I like all types of horses......when I went out to buy the horse before my last one I had set out to buy a cob gelding, came back with a TB mare......no more said!!

I think part breds arabs can be lovely but I just don't like the look off full breds .But I can understand why people like them and I think many are incridibly hardy. i likr the look of crabbit arabs as they look slightly less arab like.

I like all breeds, although I never used to like TB's..... until I owned one. Anything with four legs a head and tail is fine with me!

Well, I have to say, I own a lovely arab gelding, pics in my sig, and he is the most generous, lovely and intelegent (sometimes too intelligent) pony. I didn't go out looking for an arab but he was the best out of the ones I saw!
I think with arabs they are either very nice or terrible, you don't seem to have a half way house!
Saddles with him can be a problem as he does have quite high withers.

Guess which one I DID'NT tick????

Yes I'm back, so time to stop slating those Cleveland's if you know what is good for you!

I voted other because I don't particularly like Trakheners, and yet I saw this fab horse at the weekend and he was a Trakhener? Just like all horses!

I don't like this poll much.... Horses are all just horses putting them all into groups on pastexperience and dislikes on looks seems awful... and seeing as like said we're all on here because we share the same love of the animals. The only differnce in breeds in the type and suitable to a area. I wouldn't buy a tb but then i don't race. I wouldn't buy a cob but then i don't show in those classes.

It's funny you say that - that's what this post displays. People's misconceptions of each breed.

My friends got a show cob, but does dressage on her and she kicks the arse out of the warmbloods she competes against at intermediate level.

Same with people who say that Arabs are only good for endurance - my old arab taught me to jump up to 3'6" and it was only my nerves that stopped me going any further.

As for TB's we do race occasionally but only on a hack when his snaffle is in

He's got great movement so I'm hoping to do some entry level dressage on him this year and jumping.....

Just interested, what is it about arabs that so many people don't like?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm interested too, having been a confirmed TB person till I got my first Arab. Now I wouldn't have any other breed. I have a 3/4 bred and a full Polish Arab, love them both. They're intelligent, responsive, easy to fit saddles to (both mine are in mail-order synthetics!), tough and not in the least flighty. I think their poor reputation is down as much to the rider as the horse - they do wind up very quickly if their rider wants them to.

Strimpy total agree with you! I have a hariy cob for dressage and kicked Arss! I think shires make super showjumpers. My point was just because you wouldn't buy a horse maybe its not the horse its becasue its not suitable.

I love TB my is a star bit spooky "OMG a leaf" but not scatty or stupid! He also has great paces and does well in the dressage circuit!! I love arabs too used to work with the stallions and they are really gorgeous horses!

There arent really any breeds i hate. Theres plenty that dont "do anything" for me personally.

Im not a lover of cobs and as someone else mentioned, Im not particularly keen on the trakehners.

I really like arabs as I think you can build a real partnership with them and if you can get along with them (which I know not everyone can), they'll give anything a go. I think you're either an arab person or you arent and if you aren't they seem to pick up on it and won't play ball
wink.gif
That being said, Im ridiculously too tall for an arab
frown.gif

Of the ones you mention, the one that least interests me (I don't dislike them, I just feel they're not suited to my particular discipline) is the arab. I know they're very hardy, tough little horses, and my faves, the TBs wouldn't be here without them, but they just don't do it for me. Neither do peruvian pasos (mentioned them in previous post)
