Now I wouldn't have any other breed. I have a 3/4 bred and a full Polish Arab, love them both. They're intelligent, responsive, easy to fit saddles to (both mine are in mail-order synthetics!), tough and not in the least flighty. I think their poor reputation is down as much to the rider as the horse - they do wind up very quickly if their rider wants them to.

Do you think they get scatty and silly if they're not given anything to do? The 2 at my yard are VERY silly, but they're pretty much abandoned by their owners and I suspect bored to death (I'm sure that if they had more turnout they'd be better)
I know some people who breed arabs in Buenos Aires and they showed me round their stud and I have to say all horses were very laid back and well-behaved.

I don't like this poll much.... Horses are all just horses putting them all into groups on pastexperience and dislikes on looks seems awful...

My unfondness of arabs is based on only knowing two arabs so I am fully aware that my unfondness is probably not really well founded.

Yes I'm back, so time to stop slating those Cleveland's if you know what is good for you!

Hi SSM! I hope you had a good holiday. Did Bumble enjoy herself? For the record, I rather LIKE CB's.

All this was done rather tongue in cheek, as, like you with your CB's, I'm passionate about arabs and I rather suspected how the land lay, just wanted to see.

As for these dastardly little arabs, IMO, like any other type, you have to know them to love (or hate) them. I grew up thinking they were useless, good for nothing, delicate little ornaments then I rode one and was instantly hooked. There's no point getting riled because other people don't share our opinions of them, just smile sweetly and enjoy your lovely horses. As I said in Magic Melons original post, each to their own, there's plenty of room out there for all of us, so everyone, whatever you own, just have fun and enjoy having them in your lives.

This was not put up to start a breed war, just as a follow up to another post.

I could have done this poll about dog breeds which no doubt would cause an equal amount of debate. German Shepherd v Cocker Spaniel anyone?

I do agree that a bored Arab is a pain in the proverbial. My two love to take the mickey if they're not working - the more they work the better behaved they are. And mine are turned out 24/7 - if they have to stay in overnight for whatever reason I can guarantee the stable will be trashed in the morning.

I like a a big fat hairy cob type of horse personally although my shire x cob does a great flighty arab impression occasionally!
My first horse was a pure bred arab and for what I was doing at the time (taking hacks out at a RS and doing some local show jumping) she was fantastic. Then I got an Anglo-arab. Fantastic horse! Face pulling was her only fault. Fell in love with hairies when I worked with a couple of show cobs and now they're my thing but I also have a welshie, a shettie, and a highland type and they're all priceless to me. I'd honestly consider any breed.

1 Hackney stallions (dangerous headcases)

2 Hackey cross Suffolk Punch stallion (dangerous headcase the size of a bulldozer)

3 Any heavy horse that is bored (possibilities for destruction are endless)

4 Uncooperative Shetland ponies (you can accept being bossed around by something that meets you at eye level but not something that looks like a doormat)

5 Carnivorous Fell ponies (gets you into trouble with local dog owners)

6 Neurotic Arabs (you never know when or where your next accident is coming from)
