Which breed of dog usually fetches the highest price for a...

Another question: what is the maximum cost of a KC-registered puppy, then?

The maximum price of a KC registered puppy is whatever anyone is prepared to pay. It comes down to the laws of supply and demand.

Demand will be determined by:

a) the breed of dog - how fashionable or not
b) the health test results for the dogs in the 5 gen pedigree
c) the show results of the dogs in said pedigree
d) the working results of the dogs in the pedigree
e) the nationality of the dogs in the pedigree
f) the temperament/drive/trainability of the dogs in the pedigree
g) the affix of the breeding kennel
h) the conformation and attitude of the individual pup
I) the environment in which the puppies have been reared and what they have been exposed to

Am also interested in what is driving some of the questions you are posing. Perhaps you could clarify?

I bought a non registered springer, both parents were there to view as was an older sibling from a previous litter. Kennels were immaculate, dogs full of energy and happy, obviously loved their owner and were trained perfectly. The pups were not sold until they were at least 12 weeks old, had received all injections and had learnt basic commands, sit and walk to heel. I had gone to another breeder a week earlier to view a springer x collie which is what I really wanted. The pup was more expensive, also unregistered. The yard was filthy, both parents were there but the pups had pot bellies, were only seven weeks old, not eight as advertised and when I saw one of them poo it had blood in it. I had no problem paying what I did for my pup and nine years on she is a beautiful, well behaved happy dog and that has given us so much joy and I don't regret paying for her one bit.

Probably a tie up between the Frenchies Pugs and English bulldogs, you can easily spend 10k on any of them them around here (Essex) without a mention of KC papers. Advertised online there's a 4k KC reg mini long haired sausage dog puppy and a mini shihtzu (non KC) litter not far off that price.

The most I could pay, well that's different to what I would. I'm not into silver labs or lilac frenchies so I'm unlikely to be spending over 1k on a puppy, and KC reg at the mo doesn't mean much to me.
