Hi everyone,

Not posted much in here but looking for some advice, I am hoping to get a dog next year when I finish uni but wanted to do a fair bit of research first!

I was wondering if anyone had any breed recommendations.. I will be looking for a small/medium sized dog, which doesn't need huge amounts of walking but also able to cope going for reasonable length walks! I'd prefer short haired but also willing to look at long haired dogs.

The most important thing is it needs to get along with the cavalier king charles that already lives at home so something that gets along with other dogs is a must!

Not a fan of JRT's or boxers/staffies but willing to look at everything else.

Also happy to look at x breed's (any recommendations?) and been nosing abit at rescues but the majority around me seem to be mostly big dogs/staffies.

Lurcher!! I'm besotted with my new boy, he's got loads of energy when needed but if I can only manage a quick walk...or even none at all he's perfectly happy to sleep!!! He's not been an easy pup but that was his background rather than his temperment, now he's settled he's extreamly clean, very very loving and apart from his fear aggression (again not his fault it's down to not being socialised as a puppy) he's an absolute dream to have around.

Lurcherlink and Greyhound gap are fabulous rescues for rehoming lurchers and they always have quiet a few young dogs and puppies looking for homes. I've honestly yet to meet a dog unfriendly lurcher...I'm a staffie girlie usually but I've definately been turned by a skinny fast whuppety lurcher thing!!:D
 
i have a Sharpei, she's nearly 2 now and she's amazing in every way! x Perfect! x I had her as they are good apartment dogs as they dont want a lot of room. She loves her walks...but also lovs her bed so doesn't go out everyday....just zooms around the garden! x Only thing is..she's more like a cat...doesnt chase sticks/balls, doesn't chew furniture/shoes etc and she curls up into a ball at night! x

With Sharpei's though, you need to get on from a reputable breeder to avoid health issues like skin/eye/breathing problem. I got mine for £900 at 12 weeks old, she wascheaper as the breeder was going to keep her to show and then changed his mind so she was cheaper as she was older than 8 weeks when most people pick them up! x

Would recommend them to anyone! love other dogs, great with my cat and fantastic with kids! x Would have another if i had room and had more money!! x
 
Border terrier? Largish for a terrier, and happy to walk for miles or curl up in front of the fire!

All the ones Ive met have got on grand with other dogs/people/horses etc.
