I am looking at purchasing a new bridle, standing martingale and reins for daughter's 12.2 pony. This will be a first time purchase for us for a new outfit, they will have to match a brown saddle.
Which brands are considered to be the best? Most I see in the tack shops are hard and inflexible and it's difficult to judge from photos online. The only bridle I saw and liked was only available in the shop in full size and I can't remember the brand. I suppose price is inevitably a good guide but no guarantee if you're buying online and can't feel it before buying.

All new leather is fairly stiff, it needs cleaning, oiling and using to get it to supple up.

Go for English leather. I don't think you can go far wrong with a flat nose and brow band.

Well it really depends how much you want to spend.

For good quality middle of the road bridles I'd suggest you consider Sabre, Stubben or Jeffries. They do most things in most sizes and colours.

I've just bought a new Sabre bridle and the leather was really soft and hardly needed any oiling at all.

I love Sabre its soft from the word go they just needed a little oil. I order direct from Sabre and they have always been very quick with my orders etc

Thank you all.
I have had a look at the websites of the brands that you all recommend. None appear to have pony size standing martingales - I don't think they can be very popular.
Our current bridle is a Sabre, it has seen better days although it looks like it has served it's purpose very well for many years.
I did see some great reins last weekend at The British Open at the NEC, I have looked through the programme at the list of trade stands but I just can't find reference to the company that were selling them. They were a small stand selling their own english bridles, but their name has left me. The reins were rubber with a strong synthetic core and they were extremely soft and flexible. Anyone there with better recall than me?
