New to this forum, but imagine this has been asked a lot before. We need a new car to replace our knackered old xc90. It needs to tow an Ifor 510 and we’re struggling to find something within budget (not huge), work as a comfortable family car on school run and long distance, and be more economical than the xc90 to drive (we get 23mpg!). We’ve test driven the kodiaq and sportage but there are so many conflicting reports about towing capacities for both we’re confused. Any suggestions? Thank you

How many horses do you want to be able to tow? I have a Kia Sorrento and really like it. The tow capacity is 2800kg for the manual version (mine is a 2015). I think the tow capacity of the sportage is less than that so imagine it wouldn't tow a 510 plus 2 horses. What did they say the capacity was?

I always recommend a Nissan xtrail. I am on my third. It only tows one horse (towing capacity 2.2 tonne) so not suitable if you want to tow two. You need the 2l ones though not the newer 1.6.

Another vote for the Sorento, Sportage wouldn't be man enough. If you can get hold of the original model the towing capacity is even better (think it is 3.5t but you would need to confirm that).

I had a 2006 model and it went on for years, fab for towing, economical for a 4x4, and a comfortable vehicle to drive too.

We need to two a 13.3 and a 15.2. From our research the newer sorento doesn’t seem to have as much tow capacity and as weve been stung by a huge bill for the Volvo, we did really want to go for slightly newer so we don’t have big repair bills. The Kia garage we visited wasn’t particularly helpful either so we came away a trifle confused! A 2015 would be great though, so will investigate this again. Thank you

I tow a 14.2 and a 15.3 with a VW Touareg and it doesn’t notice. The mileage isn’t great though.

Yes, the tow capacity is less on the newer ones but pretty sure mine is still around 2500kg or 2800kg. You need to look at the manual though as my friend had an automatic and it only had a capacity of 2000kg.

I loved my sportage for towing, it was the newer model and towing capacity was 2200. Was gutted when I had to hand it back (company car). It towed like a dream, never had any problems with it
