I have a mare and foal who is five weeks old and the mare was previously fed on dodsons safe and sound, just because it was recommended to me. I have run out and I wondered the best one to try?

i would go for an alfalfa chaff, brilliant stuff for broodmares and foal can eat it too, there are molasses free versions if she has tendancy towards laminitis or if she is very fat, if this is the only thing you are feeding don't forget to add a vit/min supplement aimed at mares and youngstock, d&h surelimd is a good one.

I'm another fan of Alfala for mares/foals, its high in calcium

You can get Alfa-A which is lightly molassed, Alfa-Oil wich as the name suggests has a light coating of oil but no molasses then they do the 'lite' versions which are Alfalfa/straw mixes....
