Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting something to transport my 15.2 gelding in, but I'm absolutely green to everything concerning this. I'd like it to be as cheap to buy and cheap to run as possible, any ideas what should I be looking for/avoiding?
Also, those of you who have horseboxes - how expensive are they to keep? Do you really have to have insurance and regular maintenance? Sorry if I sound really numpty, I haven't got a clue :)
Thanks all! sushi to everyone :) yum :)

Erm, is this serious. Of course you have to insure and regularly service a lorry as well as having it tested (MOT).

Price should certainly not be your determing factor as you are likely to either end up with something costing you a lot of money to maintain (best option) to something downright dangerous.

Of course you need to check that the floor and horse compartment is safe and sound and that the unladen weight give you enough to carry your horse and all equipment, etc.

You might be better off getting a trailer if you have an appropriate towing vehicle and licence as they are cheaper to maintain.

Please tell me your joking?!?! Of course you have to have insurance, it would be illegal not to  and as for regular maintenance...you are going to put your horse in it...would you put them in any old death trap?!

Is this a joke!
Op I can assure you that if you want to transport your horse safely then there is no such thing as cheap! A lorry will need to be insured as will a decent 4x4 and also a trailer.
