Which clip is best?

Maddie is going to be clipped soon[this wek or next] and i don't know how much to get taken off
She had a chaser clip last year which was good but still sweated up around her stifle and around her bum.
I would like to take off a bit more this year as i dont like her being sweaty, she seems a little uncomfortable.
I was thinking about a trace but i came back from a hack this afternoon and her whole neck was soaked so was thinking about maybe getting a blanket.
She lives out 24/7 and will be well rugged, she's also quite hardy and doesn't seem as if she will be dropping much weight this winter!
anyone have any idea's what may be best?

By the sounds of things she should be fine with a blanket clip! Is this the pretty girlie in your siggy? She looks like the type to hold her condition well and there are plenty of peeps who hunter clip their TB x types and just rug em up well and leave em out - so she should be fine

she isn't such a dark shade at the moment...she looks like a ginger sheep!

going to look so funny when she does get clipped...she's white undeneath :O!
 
The thing with a blanket clip is you are leaving the hair on in the same area that the rug is going to cover, so if you come in & the horse is wet from rain or sweat you are going to have to wait until it is dry before you can rug & turn out. This is fine if time isn't an issue for you, but if it is try clipping her out leaving the legs & half a head on, with whatever you fancy by way of a lozenge/saddlepatch. (see earlier post).
If you clip out now you then have the option of reverting to a trace or blanket if your conscience really can't cope with it, but as SN said providing they are well rugged they will be fine.
 
My pure bred Tb's are fully clipped every year and out 24/7, never had a problem. As long as they have enough rugs and maybe a bit of shelter she should be fine! I'd agree that a full clip is probably preferable to a blanket for same reasons!
 
I would suggest a high trace clip too. You have to remember that at the moment it is remarkably warm still so she may have sweated on her neck this weekend but if the temperature drops to what it should be then all likelihood it wouldn't be such a problem.
 
sounds like she will benefit from having a blanket clip. This will keep her cooler on her neck but she still be warm enough for living outside (she may need a turnout rug on over the winter)
