Hello all,

I'm a newbie on HHO, been on other horsey forums for years but not when they decide to start charging

Anyway am just after some advice, I've always had cobs in the past and just taken a "bib" out of them in the winter for light hacking etc. I know have a scrumptious TB X girlie who I hack/school/jump about 3 / 4 times per week, what would be the best clip for her this winter, was thinking of quite a deep trace but would like some HHo advice please. Thanks very much x

Hiya

This is my first winter with her, She'd had a poor winter last year as was in a bit of a mess when I got her in April, she doesnt get much of a winter coat ( certainly sparse compare dto the cobs :-) ) she's stabled at night and rugged out during the day.

I would say a trace clip if she gets sweaty, or just a bib if she just gets a little bit sweaty. You might find she won't even need clipping

Remember that you can always take more fur off but you can't put it back on

Really depends on how you manage her, how she holds her weight, what rugs you have or willing to buy, if she sweats up a lot etc but has problems cooling off and your time too.

If she does get sweaty I think your looking along the lines of a trace clip but obvioulsy these vary depending on what would be more suitable.

I'd expect her to need less clipping for the same amount of work as your cob, as she won't have as thick a coat naturally and will cool off more easily.

I'd leave her unclipped for now and see how you get on, if she is sweating up then give her a bib clip, if she's still sweating up extend it to a belly clip, keep going removing a bit more until you reach a point where she can stay cool.

The last thing you want is to give her a trace clip and find it a struggle to keep the weight on her.
