Which clip?

Normally I leave clipping as late as possible for two reasons
1. So I only have to do it once
2. The boys stay out quite late and as I like to give them full clips (I can't cope with the white hairs when they moult) I don't like to clip them until they come in.

They're normally done at the end of November / beginning Decembet and I keep the riding light between now and then so they're not too sweaty.
However, Monty and I are doing the dressage team qualifier for my riding club at the start of November so I'd like to give him a bit of a clip before then, partly to look like I've made an effort but mostly as I'm doing a fair bit of practice and he's getting sweaty.
I don't want to take too much off, so was thinking of a bib, but have seen a diagram of Apron and Irish clips here: http://www.peasridge.co.uk/clipper-advice/clippers-clipping-advice-horses-types-of-horse-clips.shtml
Would he be ok living out with either of these (appropriately rugged of course)? I was thinking of putting a 100g rug on him as it's fairly mild still and I want him to feel the benefit of a heavier weight when he has his full clip later in the year.

I would just do one of those. Can't think why people would take all the hair off a horse living out unless they really needed to, which you don't for a dressage competition.

I was tempted but the thought of having to do it all twice is horrible. Clipping is my most hated job :( . At least a small one now would only take 1/2 an hour extra!

I've been busy clipping mine and other people's ponies. They've all had an apron clip. Easy and practical and the very fat ponies with masses of mane aren't rugged either.

Right, decision made Apron clip it is and full clip later on. Thanks! Now to perfect my lines (another reason to do a full clip!)
