Hi Guys, Im in the midst of buying a set of clippers. I will only use them twice a year on my one pony.

Heres what Im after - a quiet set which arent really heavy that can do a full clip in one go on my 14.2hh welsh x who has a very thick coat.

Do I need a heavy duty set because my pony has a thick coat? Or is the heavy duty bit just if you are clipping millions of horses? Im obviously only doing a couple of clips a year but I still want the clippers to glide through rather than snag. Are there any fab ones with all of the above which are also cordless??

Any info VERY much appreciated as I am a tad stuck right now!!

I have wolsely swifts (as do a lot of people I know) and they're fantastic but not corless. My sister has just bought some Lister Libertys along with a mains adapter so she has the option of going cordless. So far she's only done a bib clip with them so can't really gauge how good they are.

I bought some Lister Liberty clippers at the beginning of December and I think they are fantastic. I've done a blanket, hunter and a bib clip with them so far and they've managed them all with ease. If your pony has a think coat then it might be worth investing in some of the coarser blades?

In my opinion these are worth every penny.

We have liveryman which go on forever and the same blades have been on for at least 4 years. They are quicker than the wolseys but are noisier. If I was buying again I'd go for the Wolsey swifts just because we only have a couple to clip and they are quieter. Moser Rex dog trimmers are fantastic for doing the awkward places and heads, very quiet.

I've got some Lister Liberty clippers and they are ace, I use them with the battery pack and they go though thick hair really well and are very ergonomic to hold.

I've got Heineger Progress which do a great job on my fine coated TB.

Used them today to clip my friends excessively hairy Sec DxID and they coped with no problems at all - only did a chaser but they were fine, blades didn't even get slightly warm and her coat has to be seen to be believed

The Heineger Progress are very light - slim handle so comfortable to use and low vibrations as well as being quiet. They get the thumbs up from me!

I'm glad the lister libertys' have received such a good vote. I was very happy with mine and did a clipping service (2/3 horses a day) with the libertys and their predecessor the showman.
The libertys are a lot lighter and easier to handle than the showman - and would cope fine with one furry pony :-)

I just did a full clip with my Lister Liberty's absolutly no problem!! My pony mare grows an impressive coat, and her seond clip was like giving OH's TB his first clip!!

mine are lister neon - lightweight and fairly quiet - compared to wolsey's! clip mine 2 about 3 times each winter and used to tidy legs /whiskers etc. had the 3 years now. they dont blow hair in your face either
