Looking into a control headcollar for my mare whilst on box rest she has become even more bolshy and bargy to lead and is become difficult to load. Now she is coming back into work am going to get some groundwork lessons etc with her but wondering if a control headcollar will help us?
She can start having some turnout so am hoping she will settle a bit but want to get some manners and some good communication back if that makes sense?
Thanks if u got this far :)

I have just bought a strap off ebay that converts a normal headcollar in to a control one, it cost about £3.50

My logic is that if i feel i cannot use it properly or if i find it wont help then its minimal fuss and minimal money wasted

i got a rope one on Amazon for a pair of very stubborn donkeys, not used it yet but it had really good reviews, and comes in 5 different colours, will let you know how i get on

Dually every time for bolshyness, although had success with a be nice halter with a yearling that was after I was ragged around a show ring at the recommendation of the judge LOL !

Ah thanks for those will try and borrow a dually to try as they look promising. Shysmum that looks a good halter i have a rope one but just slips off her nose so dont like using it x

I have one of these, and its fab. My 19yr old warmblood is usually very well behaved, but just occasionally, for no reason, and with no warning, he will do a disappearing act while Im leading him. There is no holding him when he does go - one minute hes mooching along quietly - the next he's gone. The strap lives on his headcollar, and the first time he bogged off, I gave it a yank, and he stopped like he;d been shot! He tried once more, stopped the moment he felt the strap tighten, and ever since then, he has been as good as gold - so I figure that it has done the job admirably!
