I would like to invest in a good pair of country boots for riding and for general wear. What brands do you recommend? I have looked at the dublins and rydales.
Ideally I would like waterproof and a solid patch on the inside of the calf.
Thanks in advance.

I have the hkm Belmond boots, cheaper than dublins etc and with better reviews. Dublins are renowned for falling apart so would avoid them if I were looking.

I'd go with Ariats or Dubarry. I wear a pair of Dublin boots for working at the yard and the lining dropped down the calf and has now got a rather large hole in it. The extra money is worth it in my book as I've worn my Dublins for approx 2 months 4 times a week (all day) and they've fallen to bits.

I have worn my Dublin long boots almost everyday for nearly 5 years. I can't find them for sale now as I would love another pair!! Perhaps it's just the newer ones?

I'd go for Ariats if you can. They are super comfy and their customer service is faultless, the zips on mine were faulty and they replaced them without question, even though they were well worn.

Ariates. I've got the Windermere in green. They're fab. I initially wanted the brown version but they weren't on offer so got the sage green. Very pleased I did now. The browns go a very pale yellowish brown with use. My green ones have been oiled (inc the suede, even though you're not meant to) and are a lovely dark green and chestnut colour.

Tuffa Suffolk boots all the way. Had mine for ages now. Lining is sheepskin and much nicer than the horrid stuff that is in most boots. Also they have better instep support. Waterproof leather and easy to look after. If you find yourself at Burghley they usually have a big stand and are very helpful.

Dubarrys. My first pair will be 2 years old this winter and they're still going fab. I wear them pretty much everyday and ride in them too. I also have a second pair for the winter for going out shopping etc in. So comfy and warm!

I LOVE my Dubarry Claire's. they have the full leather panel on the inside which you mention. And they are super warm and comfortable as well as waterproof. Not cheap but well worth the money.

I like the Dubarry Claire a lot, but they are listed as being narrow in the foot. I have a WIDE foot. which brands are wider? any other suggestions?

The Tuffas are quite wide. I wear 2 pairs of socks with mine - thick walking socks in the winter. They also come in a wide or regular leg fitting
