Following on from Bessies post below I have been thinking the same recently. I have a terrible habit of gripping with my knees and bringing my legs up/back and have been working furiously this week without stirrups to try and improve it.

I rode my friends horse last week in a dressage saddle, the first time I'd ever sat in one and we had to twist the leathers as my legs couldn't reach!!! LOL She's going to lend me a Wintec synthetic to see how I get on. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't buy this one as its brown and all of my tack is black so next question, without going mad which ones are really good?

We have an Ideal VSD for everyday (my only one at the moment)

The Jessica Ideal is a really popular saddle. I have the Suzannah Ideal on order; it has a better shaped tree for my horse.

I got an isabell pattern leather (bufallo skin apparently- v soft) suede seat and knee rolls and flair (not looking for particularly and actually suits the pone) for £500 second hand from my saddler.

wintec do isabell pattern too.

I do love it and think it is prob quite a nice first dr saddle as it gives enough support but isn't too blocky.

Omg thanks for this post because that was going to be my next question.

I have also seen a site where you can hire a saddle for a month and wondered if it was worth giving that a try first?

My Wintec Isabell saddle is my more favourite dressage of all time, so comfy. Having to sell it though as doesn't fit my horse.

Personally I wouldnt use a site where you borrow a saddle for a month, saddles bed to horses, they change shape. and having that much use by so many people means they will not fit/ride well at all.

One of the girls down the yard has just got a Isabell Wintec I think...is that the suede one?? I could ask her if I could have a sit on her horsey and see what its like.....our local saddler is pretty good but I need an idea of whats good and whats not before I got and see what he's got as I have no idea when it comes to dressage saddles.

Thanks for your replies

I was never pro-synthetic but ended up with a wintec isabel werth and I am completely converted! Fits my horse well and puts me in a nice position.

FYI Equestrian clearance had them on special not so long ago!

another vote for the wintec isabelle werth here.I am unfortunately having to sell mine though as it hurts my back to ride in it.Nothing to do with the saddle,i have an old whiplash injury to my neck and spine and I just find it uncomfortable.
