I'm making use of the current heatwave to attack the cleaning and reproofing of all the turnout rugs.

The 100g fill and no fills fit into our washing machine so they get done with Nikwax rug wash and proof. However, I've got a 6'9" heavyweight Rambo which needs to be done by hand, I've cleaned it with a hose and now it needs proofing. The nikwax rug proof is IME messy and fiddly to do by hand, so I'm looking for something else.

Fabsil paint on proofing comes up with good reviews on here, but I notice that there are two types. Fabsil Universal protector https://grangers.co.uk/products/fabsil-universal-protector-liquid

and Fabsil Universal Gold which has 5 x more silicone in it but is a lot pricier https://grangers.co.uk/products/fabsil-gold-liquid

The Gold sounds like the better one to go for, has anyone used it on turnout rugs please? Also, is it better to paint it on or spray it?

Dis you try any of these out in the end? I'm having the same dilemma! Heard the gold is better for breathable fabrics like horse rugs but not seen it officially anywhere?

I wimped out and sent the HW rug off for pro cleaning/proofing in the end!
I have since bought a tin of the Gold, but have yet to use it. I am reassured that the other posters have found it to be good.
