Chaff wise, it's for a 33yr old arabxwelsh. Do you think Alfa oil or hifi senior?? She does struggle to maintain weight. She currently has chaff/sixteen plus conditioning mix/alfabeet. We're also going to get her readi grass. The vet said to still give her hay but she has lost some teeth so we think we're going to go more with hay replacers this year. Thanks in advance xxxx

I would give the dengie people a call.
Have also heard that you can feed fast fibre by allen & page as a hay replacer and you can make it as sloppy as you like to make it easy to consume.

Depends on the horse and why/how you are feeding the chaff. Alfa A Oil is the highest in calories of the two (at 12.5 MJDE/kg), but is not recommended as a total hay replacer. Hi Fi Senior has only 8.5 MJDE/kg so not nearly so many calories, but IS suitable as a total hay replacer. In addition, the Senior is meant to be formulated to make it easy to chew, so a horse with poor dentition might find the Senior easier to eat.

Thanks, I'm actually going to your horse live next weekend so will speak to the feed companies there. The Allen and page one sounds good as we struggle in the winter to get her to drink and she did have impaction colic two years ago. We do make her feed's sloppy so she's getting extra moisture. Xxxx

at your horse live last year i completely overhauled my horses feed regime, the feed stands there are so helpful and will give you samples of just about anything (if they dont have it with you they'll send it to you!). the dengie stall was particularly helpful and was recommending nuts/mixes from other companys to use in addition to their chaffs. This year i will be picking their brains about our super skinny new pony who looks like he's walked off an rspca tv ad!

Thanks for your replies. Brought her spillers conditioning mix and alfa a oil today. We'll get her hay replacer when needed. She's still got tons of grass at the moment. Will look into fast fibre when I go to your horse live. Thanks again xxxx

Equijewel is amazing - expensive but you only feed it by the cup. My 33 year old has done a complete turn around and actually gained weight in oct-nov which is unheard off.
