My aim of this year is to complete a BE80 on my pony. I am looking for opinions on where is a nice course to begin as it will be our first affiliated event.

Dressage & SJ isn't an issue it's more the XC I'm worried about as my pony can be difficult, he is fine around fairly big, solid fences it's just spooky ones we have issues with (and the odd ditch!!)

I am looking for an event that isn't too far away from Newcastle Upon Tyne and is also mid/late in the season.
Thanks :)

Northallerton end of April or breckenbrough ( helen bells) end of july :)
Will probs see you at them its my 5 year olds 1st season were just going to do a few unaffs & a few on a ticket hopefully a 90 by end of season
Whats your plans?

That's one of the ones I've been considering, mainly because it's less than 20 minutes away so if it all goes horribly wrong the drive home isn't a long one haha!

Hutton, Eden Valley and Cumwhinton run BE80 later in the season, worth a think about as not really that far from North East ( an hour ish).

Eden was one I was definitely considering, thought I could skive school one Monday and go and school after one of the earlier ones in preperation for the last one. What is Hutton and Cumwhintons courses like? Heard Eden is nice :)

Have done Eden Valley and Hutton and had a good time at both, and have heard that Cumwhinton is also very good. A plus for EV is that you SJ on a surface and some of the DR is not in sight of any jumping!!

Ah that sounds like it will suit my pony down to the ground! Have done many giraffe/tank style tests after he spotted horses going XC so would be nice to have half a chance of a decent test!

I thought so as well, it was the first BE my and the horse (1 yr out of racing) had done. Very helpful to get them to concentrate!! ;)

That is such a nice course ! Makes me feel a lot more confident we wont crash & burn shes jumped a lot more scary & technical than that

Thank you for posting those :)

There is also the new event in Cumbria (Warwick Hall) think it has same course designers as EV and Hutton so suspect that will be another good one to go to!

Also go and search in Youtube as you can sometimes get lucky seeing a little more of the XC in action there. I know I have posted a few vids there

I would say Eden Valley is a great first time 80. It is described as a first timers course.

Infact Jnhuk has linked to my course pics I took for shoestring eventing :)

It's nice and compact so you can't get lost and is a great event. There are 3 there this year which is great.

Warwick hall is same course designers - will be closer for you as on A69.

Have a look at cumbria horse trials website. There is lots of info on there including Hutton Eden valley Cumwhinton and Warwick hall.
