I am looking for a fly mask (with out ears) for my mare who has just been diognosed with Uveitis. She doesnt need the one with total sun block but just a good fly mask (vets advise) that blocks some light. which one do you guys recommend please?
many thanks x

there are LOADS on eBay, if you search fly mask then click BUY NOW only you can get some brand new ones at great bargains...

The equilibrium field relief ones are fab - they have elasticated outer so they cling on and dont let the flies in. They are the only ones that stay on my lad, so big thumbs up from me. :)

Another vote for Equilibrium Field Relief. Pricier than other fly masks, but fit well and adjustable, keep flies out, give a good clearance for the eyes. Also blocks 70% of UV rays. Always preferred them over other fly masks for my horses.

Can thoroughly recommend the Premier equine mask, if you don't want the ears they're soft material and easily cut off.

It's been the only mask to stay on my girl (she has a cashel crusader one prior to it) and is good value for money.
I second this, for what they cost the premier equine ones are really good (plus you can get them without ears) - I find they fit my mare really well.

Are you in a situation where you could borrow some flymasks of different makes off peoples to quickly try on your horse? Just like rugs, a lot of the different brands fit different shaped horses to better or worse degrees, so if you can it may be worth a bit of trial and error to find out what fits your mare best

Another vote for Equilibrium Field Relief which is soft and stretchy. I also have a Kensington mask and some I've bought from the US which are similar and they all have a fleece edging which doesn't rub like some of the ones which have nylon on them.

I have had all kinds of masks and the ones I like best for comfort, fit and staying in place are the crusader masks by Cashell. They do them with or without ears. I would recommendthe ears though as they keep the midges out and horses do not mind them at all.

I have a horse who I was told would not wear an eye mask, she does have one eye which weeps slightly and not much of a forelock so flies are always on her. She loves her Equilibrium mask (without ears) and puts her head down for you to put it on!

I've been though a million fly masks but never beaten these ones- slightly pricey compared to some but worth every penny!

I have Cashell and Premier equine they are very similar in design, have never rubbed any horse they have been on. My Cashell is still in good condition after 3 years but my premier equine is a bit trashed after a year but it could be that its on a more distructive horse.
