Been saying for ages i need a new hat! my skull has had it now, its horrible and damp and makes my head itch! after taking it off this morning and coming away with a horrid sweaty head enough is enough! am after a nice light weight ventilated one. I don't want anything OTT! I have a nice velvet one for showing and dressage so this is for everyday riding, sj comps and xc so needs to be suitable for jumping.
I really like the casco but not sure if it looks a bit much for everyday cob riding?! plus a bit over budget but could stretch! (its the dark navy one NOT the union jack blinged one!!!!!

Would prefer navy blue.
These are the ones i have found so far, any reviews? or have anything similar you would recommend?

I'm always utterly mystified by people who choose a helmet on looks.

Far more important is the fit - and you need it properly fitted not just to bung it on and work out whether it's comfy or not - and always wearing it correctly fastened. You also, if you have any sense, want it to be kitemarked and to PAS015 and BS:EN1384.

Do you actually know whether any of those will fit your shape of head? If not might I suggest you get yourself to a decent tackshop and try some on with the advice of a fitter.

Yes i realize the importance of a good fitting hat.

I tried on a couple of ventilated hard at YHL - as looking to replace my jockey skull for something lighter next Spring.

I really like the feel of the Troxel hat's.
I tried on the Zilco hats which were similar tothe Caldene (which is too OTT for my tastes). The Zilco (to me) looked more understated than the Caldene & it came in a darker navy, which was the nicest.

But do try some on & get it fitted - you never know what fits until you can try some on :)

I did try the caldene one on, although it fitted it does look a bit bulky for my head?
Casco and troxel am not sure as havent tried them on yet.
I have a charles owen skull which fits my head shape well.

Also near to us there are limited amounts of tack shops, the local one closed down :( we have a countrywide which stock a few hats but havent got a massive range. Again the harry hall hat fitted but looked bulky. The Just toggs one fitted nicely but wanted something more lightweight and with more ventilation

Only way to find out which hat is best is to try them on! I'm all for ebay bargains for many horsey items but for hats it's a proper shop and a trained fitter.

My head is Gatehouse HS1 shaped so that is what I have. It's very comfortable as well as safe. Nothing at Countrywide fitted me so the fitter there actually referred me on to another shop which sells Gatehouse rather than squishing me into a Charles Owen, which was all wrong for me.

Think I'm going to go for the new gatehouse ventilated skull, it has good safety ratings including Snell and a removeable, washable liner.

Just need to try it on now
