Which hoof boots for turnout?

My elderly cushings mare is recovering from a severe bout of complicated laminitis, which resulted in her very thin sole becoming under run with a horrible infection. This meant that part of the sole had to be pared away and it is VERY fragile.

She is finally on the mend after months of box-rest, remedial trimming, extensive anti-biotics (to protect the bone) and dressings to the foot.

She is not out of the woods yet, but things are improving, so I am very hopeful that in a few weeks she will be able to start going out again.

However, her sole will need to be protected and cannot be compromised by stepping on a stone etc. She cannot have a pad fitted to a shoe, as I cannot risk an undetected infection beneath the pad.
So, I really need to think about decent boots to turn her out in.

My thoughts are the Cavello ones, as they look easy to put on and also you can buy a Gel pad for them. I am worried about heel rubbing and also mud/stones getting between the boot and the heel.

Any thoughts or recommendations please? Thanks.

I used the cavallos for turnout for quite some time as my horse had very thin soles, I put pads in and I also put some padding in the heel to stop rubbing!
He was turned out for 8 hours a day in his, they worked really well for him!

Thankyou for the replies and the links to the pads and pastern wraps. I feel more assured about ordering the Cavellos now.

Did they ever come off though (my biggest fear)?

Mine havent but I don't taken him in big boggy mud patches as I worry about him pulling a tendon when they suction to come out if you get what I mean.

I used the cavallo's for turnout. the only time I had issues, was in very heavy mud (when it started to dry - if that makes sense), so I put the extra keepers on (they come with the boots) and touch wood, all was well.

I think cavallos would be good, they are dead easy to put on. I found they rubbed but only after hours of fast work, for your mare, they should be ideal. I rode through deep bog with them on and they never came off.
