Hi all :-)

Im looking to buy a ifor Williams trailer either this year or next, currently I have a little "ladies lorry" but it costs a ridiculous amount to run considering i use it twice a month if that!

What I am wondering is; whats the best ifor williams make? My girls a 15.2hh Warmblood X TB (so light to middle weight built) - Money isn't an issue and Im happy to spend what i get for the lorry on a trailer.

Which ones best?

Thanks

I personally don't like any of the new models at all. They look and feel very flimsy, nothing like their originals. Considering you are coming from a box, I think I'd go for the bigger model (used to be a 510, don't know what it is now) as you'd appreciate the better amount of room in it, well I know I would anyway, the 505 size would feel small (although perfectly adequate for your size horse) after a box.

I would go for the HB511 i have had one on hire for the past year and about to buy my own too! its the biggest one they do and a lot more roomy than the smaller ones and feels more balanced when towing!

Hope this helps!

I am sure you realise, but the weight of the trailer, horse and any tack etc also needs to match your tow vehicle.

So check out the weights, I know the wooden floor 505 was 820kg and the alloy floor 505 is over 900kg empty.

I have the 510 Classic and I doo like it, very solid. Not too sure about the new models they've brought out, quite alot of plastic on them.

I was going to reply with this answer but already said so **agree with above**!

A few people have suggested the classic, I shall have a look about and get a feel for each size.

Oh and my OH is getting a landrover of some sort but he's all clued up about the regulations :-)

Thank you all!! :p

I bought my 505 on the advice of someone who worked for IW. They said the new models have been designed for looks rather than durability. The airflow inside is badly designed and they got loads of complaints about the ceilings going black with mould / condensation. Also the front of the trailers arent strong enough where the manovering handles are and they crack. If you do get a new model, dont tie up onto the quick release pins on the outside of the trailer, apparently a lot of peeps do, although they look really convenient, you can wreck the side of the trailer and trash the mudgards.

I have one of the new models of the 506. Its brilliant. My 15.2 looks tiny in it. Mind you the height inside is the same as the 511. The only difference from a 506 to 511 is a few cm longer and a few cm wider. My horse travels very well in it too!

I can fully recommend one of the new models.

Definately forget the Ifor, the suspension in them is very poor making a bad ride for the ponies! I like batesons and Jean Luc Fautras best, although they are expensive compared to other trailers and difficult to find. The Rice trailers are nice too.

I would look at other makes, as mentioned above. I have a Wessex, but also considered Bateson and Rice Richardson. Ifors very plentiful but suspension wasn't good a few years ago and aluminium floor had vibration issues. Newer models might be better but I didn't look twice (or even once) at one when I was buying. Be careful of age, if buying second-hand as I've known people knock several years of the age and made a profit on selling them (check serial no. to verify). Ifors in particular were heavily discounted as so many dealers around so don't pay over the odds.
