That, really! Any advice? Covered by pony club insurance for 3rd party but want some insurance in case the pony has any serious health problem while we have her.

Any equestrian firm will insure for vets fees - but it is prohibitively expensive. You might be better off just putting an equivalent amount aside each month. In the past we've used KBIS and SEIB. Although we've not used them PetPlan are well reviewed. There are some that are less well reviewed however. E&L and Animal Friends seem to come in for more than a fair share of complaints. I've not used either for horses but breifly fostered a dog insured with Animal Friends who were worse than useless.

I agree and haven't insured (for vet) any of ours, but everyone says it is worth doing if you are loaning a pony and have a liability clause in the loan agreement.
Thanks for these companies - I will look now

It depends on what you can cover in an emergency really. With a loan rather than a pony you own the owner makes the decisions on whether or not to continue so you potentially end up with a massive bill for treatment you would not have paid for if it were your choice. But in that scenario the insurance isn't likely to cover it either. Make sure you read the small print!
