Im currently (well was) with E&L and ive just noticed that they havent collected a payment from me for at least two months. I set it all up by direct debit and I dont know if they stop at the end of a year but they havent contacted me so im guessing im not insured.

E&L dont have the best reputation (didnt know that until I used them) and im wondering if anyone can recommend a company that theyve dealt with and had no issues.

i use petplan and they have always been really good and paid up when i made a claim.

however they are rather expensive

I can't recommend AmTrust highly enough... have been brilliant with me and paid out nearly £1000 in two weeks.

Millin the best i have ever used, been with them for 8 years
had to claim on vet fees and tack and they paid out quickly.

Have used both petplan and nfu and had excellent claim experience with both.

have just stopped insuring with NFU as they have changed the cover for veterinary claims. once a horse has had a condition it becomes an exclusion. my horse had an excess for brushing/over reach due to scarring seen in his vetting. these were injuries from when he was a youngster and he has not had any problems during my ownership. due to the new contract, this excess became an exclusion (after 7 years of cover) and they have lost a customer.

my understanding is that petplan exclusions can be reviewed at a future date.

as well as considering the premium cost, i suggest you also think about how long you are planning to keep the horse. if its a horse for life, then personally I would go with petplan.

as for e & l - no comparison to NFU or petplan

Same here, was with petplan and never had a problem with them until my renewal went up by over £150 for no reason. Got a great quote of krissi on here and am well pleased

Another recommendation for AmTrust. Always been brilliant and very quick to settle.

petplan are expensive but you gotta think they are now insuring up to 25 yrs of age so even tho expensive still i find are better the nfu. xx

I had a quote from Petplan for my boy when he turned 16 and they wanted over £900 a year which i just couldn't justify, I was with NFU and the premiums just kept going up and up, so needing to save some money I decided to change ended up going with E&L, horse then got strangles nearly died put a claim in and they refused to pay out as said it wasn't an accidental injury !!!!!!!
So the morale of my story was I never should have changed from NFU as I never had any problems with them

!!!!!!

Always used NFU, they are totally fab. Pay out with no questions etc. Only hassle I have had is with insuring our eventer as we paid over £5K for her. All sorted now.

Always been witth NFU but again I'm not happy about the new policy wording for exclusions. Sounds like the premiums will be just the same yet most owners will have lots of things excluded permanently.

AIUA. brilliant- paid up without question and only excluded one leg even though he had treatment and remedial shoes on all four...

Another for AmTrust Equine, good premium and at renewal if you don't claim you get 10% no claims discount also very quick at paying claims and very friendly staff
