Hi All,
Looking for a little advice. Until now have had the ponies on my own yard so have had BHS gold membership insurance and tack at home on the household policy. Unfortunately life has been a bit of a bugger and getting divorced.... having to sell my yard :(

So now I need to insure my two beasties properly as they are having to move to a livery yard and tack in the tack room etc. My old lady is 18 years and her son who's 3. Which insurance do you recommend? I am not worried about vets fees, just public liabilty, personal injury, tack and the other standard bits. KBIS are looking good at the minute.....

Any ideas welcome, just need the documnets to show to the new livery yard owner,
Cheers

I asked the same thing recently and overall KBIS stood out amoungst the rest. Was looking at putting my horse (when he's vet checked and bought) on my mum's policy with NFU but even thier "discounted" rate was more expensive by a fair bit than if I took out my own policy with KBIS.
KBIS seem to be overall cheaper, cover for more and pay out on claims quickly.
Stay away from E&L and their sister companies too, apparently they are real horrors to claim from.
Other companies noted for being good were NFU and PetPlan although I found them a lot more expensive.
Another thing about KBIS before I go is that I plan to have my policy through my yard (under my name tho) as I'll get a nice wee discount so if you have friends at your new yard see if they want to go in for a group discount with you.
Good luck! :D

To be honest, as you have more than one horse, its still cheaper just to keep the BHS gold membership for the public liability and personal accident. With regard to the tack, why not see if you can get an extension to your house insurance? many do one to cover posessions away from home. Otherwise, Can you continue to keep expensive bits of tack at home? Thats what I do, I only have a one bed flat, but find the space somehow!

Your yard owner will just be interested in the public liability bit and your BHS memebership is fine for that.

Good Luck!

Petplan are brilliant!

I changed to them after 30 loyal years with NFU!

With Petplan they will FULLY cover your veteran if you insure them before their 19th birthday (NFU Do not)

Petplan worked out a third of the renewal price from NFU this year! Told NFU what pet plan was offering but they didn't budge!

I used a company called Millin and they have been fab. Settled bills quickly and sorted out a solicitor when we were hit by a car out hacking. Only a small company but have a very personal feel to them

I have to agree with Foraday.. I am with PetPlan.

LOVE THEM wouldn't change ever now, they have been helpfull and polite and when I wasn't sure to claim on something or not they advised me all through the process and didn't even push me to make the choice of going the expensive route they actually saved me money.

Can't recommend them enough...

I'm with KBIS they seem ok (just putting a claim through at the mo) but they like to put silly exclusions on the policy. However they paid out £10k for my friends horse that needed surgery on his ligaments.

I don't know about for tack etc but Stoneways have been utterly immense this year for my vets bills. I couldn't have asked for them to be any better in fact
