Hi

I am looking for (ideally) a 3.5tonne lorry BUT i have a few issues:

1) The horse section must be at LEAST 7ft chest to tail to fit my girl in

2) the payload must be AT LEAST 1300kg so i can take her plus another

REALLY struggling to find such a thing!!

any ideas what make?

Thanks!

TBH - no hope on the payload

Remember that the payload has to incorporate you + any passengers + tack + flask + sandwiches ++++++

I've only heard of the Boss (Supa-lite) 3.5t boxes as being anywhere to that kind of payload. I think you may find it virtually impossible to find one with that amount of payload with out paying lots of ££££££££

Did you specifically want a lorry or is a trailer out the Q? I was in same situation as you in that I wanted to take two large ones out all the time (I also only had a B licence at the time) and save from me having to take my C licence to drive a bigger lorry so I could comfortably take two big'uns I ended up buying a trailer and taking my B+E licence. Much cheaper than forking out £20k for a decent 3.5t box with a large payload.

Good point - the OP already has B+E provisional so only has to do the practical driving/reverse/coupling test - no theories or medical

They can drive a B+E set up now with a supervising driver etc etc

Yes I have a boss with 1300 kg payload , look at some of my previous posts there are info bits and pics on them... But they are expensive £22k upwards.

The 3.5t that we have has a payload of 1200 but still only travel one of our horses at a time. Did squeeze Ben and a pony in a couple of times for short trips but avoid doing it if possible.

I do know some body that has a boss but was lots of £££££ and don't know if D would fit comfortably.

Hope you get it sorted was a nightmare when we looked.

Thanks all

Ironically I used to have a 4x4 and trailer but the car ended up costing me ridiculous amounts of money ..
Thousands on tyres, things going wrong and it was out of warranty etc etc. I really envied my friends who could load up and go in a lorry whilst I was faffing trying to hitch etc

I am waaaay old enough to drive a bigger lorry I just like the thought of not having to worry about plating and worry about the cost of a larger lorry going wrong

I did contemplate a 5.5 tonne but they all seem to have strange forward facing travel and big girl travels best herringbone or reverse. I could do a 7.5 tonne but the compact nature of a small lorry appeals

I guess I am a bit lost really very very confused!
Bensmum did you end up with a lorry? Hope things improving for Bo, had to have my youngster Pts but d goes from strength to strength :) her liver is starting to regenerate woop :) x

I to-d and fro-d from lorry to trailer to lorry and finally back to trailer for a few years and I have to say that the Discovery and Equi-trek set up was the best by far. In terms of ease and also costs. It sounds like you had bad luck with your previous car but don't let it put you off all together. It sounds like a 3.5t lorry might not be workable for you and if you get a bigger one that needs plating it will almost certainly cost you (at least) a couple of thousand a year to keep on the road.

I'm another who has found a good car trailer set up, (Kia sorento and ifor 511) car is fab to tow and great on fuel for a 4x4 when not towing. It's been reliable and parts are good value. I also used to envy friends who already have everything in the lorry set up and just go but I've got hitching up down to a "T" and with my 4x4 I don't get stuck in the fields when friends with lorries do ;)
