Grazed out 24.7.

suppliment with horsehage high fibre to replace hay.

Feed spillers happy hoof about 2 kg per day. Happy hoof has vitamins but should i be feeding a balancer too?

I feed my highland Dodson and Horrell equibites when he isn't having any feed, I think they are great for making sure the vits and mins are topped up without giving any extra feed.

I switched from Baileys Lo Cal (£24.50/20kg) to Spiller's Lite balancer (£14.75/20kg) this winter as it was considerably cheaper and am happy to report both balancers work well.

That said, if you are feeding the recommended amount of Happy Hoof for the weight of your cob, then no need to feed anything additionally. You wont be needing a balancer unless you decide to stop with the Happy Hoof altogether or are feeding less than the recommended amount per day.

I couldn't feed my cob a balancer. He was fed light versions (blue chip and top spec) at half rations and still gained weight!

I've recently put him on Naf general balancer but he's always had good hooves/been shiny!

I just feed my cob fast fibre with his vitamin and mineral supplement added, I've had my forage analysed so feed in accordance with this. Previously. Just fed the fast fibre with equimins mineral and vitamin supplement (can't remember the name!)

I'm a big fan of the top spec anti-lam.... even my fatties don't put weight on with that, and I can be as mean as I want with grazing and soaking hay, feeding straw etc without worrying about actually starving them!!;) (Doubtless they would have a different opinion!!:D)

thanks thats great the Happy Hoof is enough :D

In summer he doesnt really have Happy Hoof as the grass is good and he puts weight on, would that be a good time to switch to topspec antilam? and how would I feed it without happy hoof as its only a small scoop isnt it?

can you feed it from the hand literally like a treat, and thats the days dose done?

We feed Top Spec Anti Lam to our good doers year round. Some on half measures, most on full measures. You can feed it literally on its own although we give it with a small amount of Top Chop Lite.

Most people just add their horse's summer supplement to a handful of chaff - Happy Hoof would be okay - and offer the supplement that way. If your cob is happy to eat it without the chaff all the better as you wont have to buy in any chaff over summer. But most horses wont eat a supplement on its own and need it mixed into a bit of chaff and a tad of water to mix, to 'dilute' the supplement into :)

once my current happy hoof runs out i'll want to change for definite as 2kg is FOUR stubbs scoops a day which is too much for him :(

A lot of you guys reccomend top spec antilam but at £35 a bag it seems a lot!!

How long does it last? and does it stay fresh for this duration?
