A crank noseband is only any different from a normal cavesson if you do it up tight, and can have the advantage of not pinching the jawbone at the back, cause of the pad, but again, only if you use it as a cavesson, not as a tight tight tight crank.

So I have no issue with cranks as a rule, but dont like them used as cranks!

Have more of an issue with flashes, mainly that its hard to find bridles without them! And that people dont look at bit suitability and comfort for the mouth before resorting to them.

none tbh as my horse does not need one which is a good job as sis broke his last everyday cavesson !!, for showing , dressage and xc I do relent and put one on to stop the trekking pony look (no offence to trekking ponies intended)

I only use cavessons on my lot and that would be my preferance for most horses. TBH this is mainly an aesthetic decision as they're so loose that they wouldn't be missed! I don't mind drop and grackle nosebands when used for the right reasons but I really don't like flashes. I also dislike crank nosebands - yes, you can just do them to normal cavesson tightness but the majority of people I've seen using them don't, which must make them very uncomfortable.

Just being nosy really :p
Have ridden in a crank, flash and a cavesson before and a drop for the first time tonight.
It's strange to be honest, Red hates flashes leans in his cavesson and he really softened tonight in a drop and we both loved it! It suits him as well :p
Anyway, which noseband(s) do you prefer and why?
Sorry! Forgot grackle, silly girl :o Can't edit the poll either!
Opps also you forgot a
none! for us lot that dont use them :D

None. I have only had /ridden young one's and I don't bother with nosebands to be honest. Most don't need them and I don't show and hunting kit is more relaxed over here than over in England. Thank god as my one and only nice cavesson was broken last year and I have yet to replace it...!!!!

IMO....if your horse is evading the bit, opening his mouth etc....then you need to find out why rather than just strapping the mouth shut. You are treating a symnpton, not the c

Ditto
As above.

Whatever works best & does the job! I've used flashes, cavessons, kinetons, grackles, and have a crank noseband on my newest bridle although it's loose on my lad.
I admit I love my kineton noseband, I think the horses like it too (: My last horse would rub her jaw until it bled in a grackle, but quite happy in a flash or cavesson. Dan sometimes wears his flash because he can decide to take the p*ss some days, but is usually in a cavesson - hates the drop.
My Welsh A goes nosebandless! :D

I've ticked cavesson & kineton, because these are the nosebands I currently use. My horse seems to like to chomp, lick and chew when she's being schooled and I don't want to stop her from doing this. However a lot of the time I ride without a noseband at all. It annoys me that I have to put a cavesson on for dressage, more tack to clean!
