which phone do you have and where do you put it when you ride

I have a Samsung Galaxy for normal use but also have a small samsung razor pay as you go with all my ICE numbers in it. Everyone knows this is my riding phone so can contact me on it when I am out. It tucks neatly inside my bra.

I have a samsung galaxy for normal use too, and an old small clamshell with a tesco pay-as-u-go sim card. The second phone almost costs nothing to run...

Yep mine is on a Tesco Pay as you go as well I top up by £10.00 it gives me £20 credit for that month and it takes for ever to run down as it is only used if totally necessary and to to text YO and OH of where I am going when I hack out just in case horse meanders back on his own.....cautious me lol x

I bought the Sony xperia specifically because it's small. My version has a slide out keyboard, which I like a lot, although it does trap the odd bit of hay:p. It goes in the pocket of whatever I'm wearing.

This is what I have. Sadly nolonger available. Mine is on its last legs and I'm struggling to find anything else similar.

When I had my older style (not Smartphone style) Nokia I used to carry it in a bumbag. One day the mare I was riding whipped round and I fell off onto the bumbag. Phone was fine but my back wasn't! Very sore for quite a while.

Very old small Nokia, and it lives in my bra - to the ridicule of my friends and neighbours. A doctor told me not to carry a mobile in a hip pocket while riding. If you are thrown a hip is one of the most likely things - along with a shoulder - to land on, and he said you seriously don't want bits of mobile phone crushed into your hip.

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread, OP, does anybody know roughly how long iPhone battery's last? I'm thinking of getting an iPhone 4 but apparently the charge is rubbish :o

I had my HTC sensation in my back pocket with the thin leather cover on it as usual on Wednesday. Only damage is in the corner that would have been squished onto the tarmac along with my bum. Just scratches so I am well impressed, it enabled me to call Dan, my mum and dad and work while I was waiting for the ambulance.

Battery life...well, i use it a lot, use the internet a lot on it and i just charge it by my bed overnight. On a particularly busy day, it might start running low in the evening, but on the whole, I have no complaints.

Ooh! I didn't think of a HTC - I will go browse them now :D
Can anyone recommend the HTC Wildfire S?

I love mine. It just works. I haven't messed with it by updating with shiney new stuff, it is as it was when I got it two years ago and works perfectly for me. Maybe once a month it gets slow, so I just turn it off for a bit and it is back to normal. Brilliant screen, great for internet browsing and works super well with FB App.

Takes great pictures, brilliant for videos and uploads videos straight to youtube in seconds.

I am amazed the screen didn't crack or shatter on Wednesday. I have flushed it in the loo twice as it has fallen out of my back pocket. Just took the back off and battery and sim out and left to dry on top of boiler. Hey presto. It has been dropped from my hand on my 16:2hh onto concrete. Dropped out of the land rover numerous times and just has a cheap leather case off ebay for protection.

Check it out. Oooh, it's also a great size for my little hands, yet still sleek and smart. It's an android phone BTW.

Which one did you say you had? It sounds fab! Personally I don't care about looks but having a good camera and being pretty much bombproof is what I need! I have a budget of £100 is it around there or quite a bit more? :)

Probably a bit more than that unless you buy second hand on ebay. It is the HTC sensation. Absolutely brilliant phone but I think the wildfire is good too, just not so good at pictures, internet etc. I just do contract so pay for the phone over the duration of the contract. If I had to do PAYG I think I would probably have a cheapo as I am a thightarse...but I would miss this phone.

I have to go PAYG as mum's funny about contracts
Someone on facebook has suggested a Sony Xperia Micro and a Samsung Galaxy Ace. I'm happy with anything as long as it doesn't break and has a good camera! I'll be using it at the yard and for going out so it'll probably be covered in scratches :o

Some kind of LG! In the waistband of my jodhs, or in my boot while I'm riding ;)

Whatever you get, you can get a cover for it for under a tenner on ebay so get one :-)

I have an I phone, used to have a bb! I always make sure I buy jods with a pocket, so put it there! once I put it in the pocket in my top and it full out mid gallop! I turn around to look for it and some dodge looking man had found it and I reckon he'd have kept it if I hadn't have seen him pick it up, that was my bb!

My concern is the damage it would cause you if you fell off. Collar bone injuries seem to be common in horse riders. Not keen on bra idea either, but at least the skeleton/phone screen is protected by soft tissue.

Far safer than landing on a bum bag or a belt with items in it! or even your purse!

If you are that concerned you possibly should consider giving up riding - you don't need any thing to assist with the breaking of bones - if you land awkwardly you might break!:p;)

If you need a phone in an emergency - its no good if you have to get a bum bag around to your front and undo a zip or ferret around inside your boot - Emergency buttons for the elderly are hung around the neck as they are the easiest place to reach in an emergency if you don't have a full range of movement

Last week, the paramedic told me i was lucky not to be wearing a body protector. Yes, i have a spine fracture, but...he said that i would likely have had my spinal cord severed had i been wearing a body protector. He basically said that when a horse lands on you like that, any bump or foreign object can make it highly likely that the back would be badly broken. Imagine lying on your back with a body protector on. The weight of a horse on top of you will crush everything...but the part of your spine "protected" by the body protector would be held 3/4 inch off the floor and the "unprotected" part would be pushed to the floor...hence, severed spinal cord. Not that he was saying that body protectors are bad, but making the point that when accidents happen, you're going to get hurt and no amount of careful preparation will prevent it.

Was i bothered where my phone was when Molly was on top of me? No. Little things were the last thing on my mind.

I have a Samsung galaxy but don't want to risk breaking it when out riding so found an old brick at work and got a pay as you go sim.
I programmed all the numbers I might need in it and it's now called my riding phone.

Goes in a little pocket in my hi viz jacket
