Would like to hear your views on which products you find best to give a lovely glossy coat when showing. He has a good shine to his coat without using any products through his feed and supplements, we use supreme show shine, some ponies we show against have a shine on their coats that makes ours look dull, any suggestions?

Black sunflower seeds, instant linseed to start in the feeds. Grooming and strapping produces natural coat oils.

I have found the alva products very good, or the asorbine ones for when showing.

I also use supreme sparkle on manes and tails.

Plenty of polishing with a sheepskin mit is also good for bringing up the gloss in a coat.

Ooo I second that - it's brilliant stuff.

Forgot to say - don't wash too the coat too much with shampoo and really rinse well - I only use shampoo when I am showing - which is once or twice a month between April and October and then really only on the white areas to get them snowy white and very little or not at all on the brown areas (I have a skewbald) - more of a rinse on these parts unless he is really muddy.

Rest of time I use water and a few essential oils if they are sweaty to freshen up.

Final tip - I bought a dress circle lycra body suit which I put on after he is washed and leave overnight - it really does polish the coat plus keep the little monster clean. Take it off when I arrive at the show ground and not before.

Alfa-Oil is brilliant, I used to add oil to feeds until I started using this and now I don't need to and both my horses have glossy coats.

Liver or normal chestnut? Linseed oil works wonders and show sheen.

My YO takes the mic out of how shiny Ty is - she went to pat him and said her hand flew off.......lol x

If he's a bright chestnut not sure if it's as easy to get a brilliant shine - coarser hair I guess? Darker they are the more they gleam!

he is liver chestnut, someone recommended I try show shine they use for cattle, I have sent for some from a company called Chrities based in Ireland, I hope it works as alot cheaper that equine shine. It does state it can be used on horses as well as cattle. Will let you know when I have tried it.

I have just looked on the alva horse web site and there is a product called Alvagleam which states to give the ultimate shine, spray on 1 hour before the class and then polish horse with a velvet mitt, anyone used this before£ £19.95 for 500mil or £29.95 for 1 litre, not cheap
