My horse has rubber mats at the front of the stable and a very deep shavings bed over two thirds of it. The mats are some i bought off a local livery yard who were chucking them out.
My boy suffers from narcolepsy and he is starting to injure his legs by falling over in the stable, even though his bed is about a foot deep!
I want to put rubber mats underneath the bedding to act as a cushion for him but wondered which are the best to buy.
I have always found the ones with pimples on one side and ridges on the other get slippery if they get wet, so just wondered if anyone uses anything different.

These are not the cheapest, but I am on my third set and have used them since 1996 - the originals are in a field shelter (sold them) the second set was bought 9 years ago and still look like new and have just order a set for Chancer's stable - Stablelite - they are 2" thick, very very soft, warm and not slippery.

I have just bought 12 mats with VAT and delivery for £443. They are fitted like carpet tiles - no interlocks etc.

I have looked at other mats, but have gone back to Stablelite as nothing was as thick and soft. They drain the pee.

Disadvantage - I take mine up every two years as I do use a small bed - very heavy mats, really need two people to do it.

I have the veterinary grade Equimats. They're green & interlock like a jigsaw & mine are over an inch thick.
They're not the cheapest, but I'm really pleased with them & I can handle a mat (6x4') myself.

I would recommend Fieldguard's M8 mats for maximum comfort and maximum economy. They're 4'x3' - so very manageable for weight, they don't curl up, lift or shift, they drain well, you need very little bedding as they're soft enough without - so just enough to soak up wee - and they're very durable!! AND they're cheaper than anything that is comparable for comfort!!
