My new beastie has a very wide and big nech due to being worked in an outline most his life/conformation etc. His owner said full necked rugs had destroyed his mane as they are not tailored to this shape- howver he will be out all the time unless weather really bad so i want him to have one- anyone have one on their horse which has a big neck and it fit well?

I would not go with a neck cover, Mark Todd rugs I find are bril, I have a very deep chested cob cross and they fit brill, the hood though was a little tighter and he trashed it !!!

Stay away from the derby house ones! I couldnt even fasten the neck on Lance!

I would recommend Masta and Rambo, they are the only rugs that are deep enough and generous enough for my boys.

Go for the FAL Extra Deep rugs and ask them to make the neck cover extra large at the same time. You can get the detachable ones, which are fab. Gives you more versatility.

My lad is exactly the same (Kerilli will vouch for the neck!) - all full neck rugs rub (although his shires which I bought at a sale is better than most) TBH I find detachable neck covers work best to stop the mane rubbing.

I find Mark Todd / Masta / Shires the best for him - FAL and Rambo just don't come big enough in the neck /shoulder area
