I need to buy a new turnout rug, either a Mark Todd, or weatherbeeta, he is clipped out, in at night and when truely awful weather in the day as well.
How many have the full neck rugs? or would I be better with a detachable neck, at the moment he has just a high neck.

What weight, what do you recommend, also if I was to buy a high/full neck is it advisable to buy the next size rug so it doesn't give him a cold botty.

Sorry for all the questions, but there is just too much choice and I want to get the right one.

Thanks in advance.

I have full neck rugs as well as detachable and the standard t/out rugs. In the winter i get most use out of my full neck ones, as if it's muddy then I don't want to spend 45 mins in the evenings grooming when I could be spending that time riding!!
If he's clipped out I'd also go for a heavyweight, and if you are buying a Mark Todd or Weatherbeeta there should be no need to get the next size as they are made so that they are long enough to cover their bums!!

I got a weatherbeeta orica with a detachable neck of equestrian clearance warehouse for Ryu this winter, his masta rug is a mini skirt and I feel I'll get the most use out of one I can use with or without a neck.

Thanks for the replies-

Baileysno1 - is the neck attached via a zip? does it have a nice fit ( not draughty).

tabithkat64 - I have been looking at orican's looks a nice rug.

Ifield- thanks for the advice on sizing, don't want to drown him.!

My vote is the Mark Todd - I love the JHL / Mark T neck rugs. They are the only ones that sit well and don't rub

I prefer a detachable neck any day over a combo - you can control the horses temperature much better and they don't end up with sore withers or bald manes.

I have no filling, medium and heavyweight neck covers. The only slight hitch is that I end up sewing D rings onto some rugs.

I have a med weight full neck Jumpers horse line one that is really good. There is a gusset between the neck and body so even when she grazes it covers all the way to her ears
