Started doing a few pleasure rides last year and at the end of the ride, I normally sponge my pony down. What rug would you use when travelling him home in the trailer to help him dry off or would you just leave him 'naked'?

For me it would depend on the time of year, if they are clipped and also the outside temperature.

I would probably use a fleece most of the time, but in summer when its warm I could travel them naked.

I always travel with something. If there is an accident better to loose the rug than rip the skin. When it is warmest I use the ultra light skim type ones - I'll see if I can post a link so you can see what I mean. Then graduating "upwards" through a mesh type ones to the ones with light fleece above and mesh below. But I've seen enough incidents over the years where rugs have torn in transit. If there was no rug the skin would have been ripped - although I do accept ultra light rugs rip more easily than horse skin does I have had some very thin skinned TBs!

It all depends on the weather, your individual horse and how warm it gets inside your trailer. Ours travel in a horsebox which can get quite warm, especially if there are two horses in there. We also have one horse that gets quite sweaty travelling. So if it is warm they travel naked, most of the time they wear a thin fleece, occasionally if it is really cold then a Thermatex.

Found it - finally. My internet is on go slow this morning.

This is the skrim type rug I mean http://www.equestrian.com/p/cooler-rugs/weatherbeeta-scrim-cooler-standard-neck/654557/

And these are the half fleece type with mesh below http://www.equestrian.com/p/cooler-rugs/mark-todd-deluxe-half-mesh-cooler-rug/894400/ You can get these from ultra light all the way to ultra heavy which we use when coming back from hunting in the depths of winter

Thank you Shay, the skrim ones are ones I've looked at.
