Which sheepskin half pad?

I had my jumping saddle fitted with a sheepskin half pad, but my saddler said mine was so packed down it was doing nothing (I knew that anyway but hadn't got round to buying another one!) so she put hers on which was a new version of mine- a Nuumed. I really don't like mine as it bedded down very quickly, looks very flat is is practically useless after only a year.

I have been looking at a few and have narrowed it down to Le Mieux, Kentaur and Stephens, but heard the Stephens don't wear too well either, how fluffy are the Le Mieux and do they bed down a lot? I was thinking of getting the pro-sorb version as he changes shape a lot.

any other suggestions welcome! thanks :)

I love my premier equine one, not packed down at all. My le meuix one has packed down a little, but it's pretty old. I fluff mine up weekly using a dog grooming brush which I think helps.

I have a Salamo Merino Lambskin half pad which I picked up at Badminton Horse Trials last year for only £20! Will be stocking up again this year. It still looks brand new even after quite a few washes.

I have a LeMieux merino + on one horse, and a PE air technology wool pad on the other. Both great quality, I'd say the LM is 'slightly' denser wool, though the PE has a larger area of wool. I also like the shock absorbing foam of the PE, and the air holes. It really keeps her cool and dry. Both get washed very frequently, the LM more than the PE, and come up beautifully, though the LM is starting to collect hairs, which I just can't shift:(

Nuumed - British wool, shorn off the sheep and sewn into a knitted backing. Nice product but not sheepskin.

Merino lambskin - soft, fluffy, but not the most shock absorbing.

Mattes - British sheepskin, the real deal, nothing else is as good IMO, and its the only thing I use for remedial fittings.

Thanks for the replies, I hadn't looked at premier equine ones, forgot about mattes! Id definitely rather spend more money than buy something that is useless in a few months. That explains it then sbloom, they are rather pricey considering. Just realized that I have a LM numnah that is half lined and that has gone quite solid underneath even when washed, but I do like the style of the LM. Off for a google !

Nu-med recommend brushing the sheepskin with a dog brush to revitalize it. Take care with the conditioner, you need to wash a wool numnah with the right product or you could wreck it.

Nuumed isn't sheepskin! Yes, brushing is good for sheepskin, I'd go gently with wool as not sure how firm it is in the backing, but if Nuumed recommend it then it should be fine. WIth real sheepskin wash seldom, though with a proper leather wash like the Mattes Melp product, no conditioner as far as I and Mattes are concerned (!) and brush regularly.

How do the Le Mieux and Mattes size up? Saddle I am using is a 17" Prestige event that is quite dainty and the medium sized Nuumed seems just a tad small, but I hate to see big chunks of material sticking out with the sheepskin ! I had to brush my Nuumed last week as my mum used it on my hairy, moulting connie and big chunks of wool were coming out.

Well with LeMieux...I have a 16.5" saddle CC/monoflap (possibly 16, but I'm pretty sure its 16.5")on my 15'3 belgian warmblood (but a looks like a TB) and I have a 'Small' size and I would say there is plenty of room for a 17" (in fact I think that was on the size guide).

I like the LM one because there's plenty of fluffy stuff for the horse but they haven't gone OTT with the wool on the trim.
